Agricultural Challenges in Thailand 4F+Fun For 1. Quality of Life F ood 2. and Environmental + Friendly F eed F un Agricult ure 3. F uel 4. F orestry
1. Food Good agriculture Raw materials Human food
Value Chain of Standard Production
Kamphaeng Saen Cattle Innovation Eri Silk : landrace worm
Rice Research Center Purple rice (Riceberry)
National Policy : Large scale plantations • Cost Reduction • Mechanization • Machinery pool
Raw agricultural products 2. Feed Animal feeding
3. Fuel Agricultural products Alternative fuel Bio Energy
The Thailand's 20-Year Alternative Energy Development Plan Increase alternative energy share to 30% by 2036 Bio Biomass diesel Ethanol Biogas
4. Forestry: Increase area / reduce climate change effects Agro Forestry Integrated Farming New Theory Agriculture
The Situation of natural resources in Thailand Forest: • The total forest area decreased annually, even if forest concessions have been cancelled. • deforested about 0.08-0.13 million ha/year Year Forest area (x10 6 ha ; %) 1945 80.2 (61%) 1961 68.5 (53.3%) 2000 42.3 (33%) 2014 40.8 (31 % ) 2021 46.0 (35%) 2025 51.2 (39%)
Effect of climate change on Thailand agriculture • Thailand's took a big hit from the big flood during the end of 2011. – Roughly 4 million rice farms was heavy affected, – around 100,000 fish and shrimp ponds was lost – estimated lost of livestocks was 110,500 heads.
Effect of climate change on Thailand agriculture • Annual rainfall are decreased in the central area but increase around the N and N/E part. – damage cane sugar and rice in the central region. – Temperate might affect livestock due to stress of heat, affect on survival rate of the new born and immune system.
Thailand's 20-Year National Strategy Stability, Prosperity, Sustainability
The Challenges of SDGs in the next decade • Aged Society : Next farmer ’ s generation • Standards : Food Safety/Food Healthy/ Food security • Climate changes : heat, drought and flood • Value added : Technology and Innovation • Labor Crisis : Mechanization • Low/zero waste : Post harvest technology • Intra-International logistic gateway ; train, trailer, plane and ship
