The opportunity to work with Brandon in 2020 and forward are very exciting. I would like to personally thank everyone here for their patience during the Director of Tennis transition and his orientation into this new Club environment. Additionally I would I would like to thank the board and General membership for their support during my relatively tenure here at BTC. You make this job a pleasure on a daily basis. 6. Berkeley Tennis Club Annual Meeting 1/12/20 Director of Tennis Report What a great year for tennis instruction this year at the BTC. The clinics, camps, tournaments and practices have kept the coaching staff busy. We continued weekly adult clinics suited for players of all levels. We also introduced a few intensive adult camps that were well received. Juniors Clinics and Camps have been filled to capacity and the High School level group was tremendously successful. We hosted various competitive tournaments this past year. Our Club tournaments and weekend events have been popular, with a solid, core group of members participating and having fun. The Pacific Coast championship, The BTC $60K Women’s Challenge the addition of the $120K UTR Event were exciting for a majority of our Members. With Brandon Curry as the new Director of Tennis at the helm the coaching staff will continue to develop its programs over the next year. We will attempt to make more suitable clinics for the Members and involve a wider variety of Members involved in the weekend events. Our season may peak during the summer with the $60K ITF Women’s Pro tournament tentatively scheduled for July 13-19. Sponsorships are needed, so please contact Mitch if you or your company are interested. It was a great event in 2018 and 2019 and BTC members enjoyed both watching and housing many of the pro players. We are also working to expand the Committee responsible for organizing the event. Please contact Mitch or Brendan once he is on Board on January 21, if you are interested in assisting. We would like to give a special thanks to our coaching staff of Peter and Rafa who have gone the extra mile during the search for the new Director of Tennis. They both stepped it up for our team.

  9. BTC Annual Meeting House and Grounds Committee Recap January 12, 2020 Chairperson: Jim Gay Committee Members: Caitlin Brostrom, Jan Gunn, Sydney Kennedy, Tom Zakim, Kenny Yip We started out the year completing the Heritage room/Café renovation, and obtaining some new pool umbrellas and matching furniture. Concerns about chimney safety were looked into, and it was decided that 2 of the chimneys did not present a concern, and we decided not to do anything about them. The third chimney (the ballroom) is a concern, but doing anything with it at this time would undoubtedly entail a tremendous amount of other work on the ballroom (sheer walling, strapping, new lights, new floor, new stage, etc.) that it was decided not to do anything and to possibly convene a special committee just for the ballroom. One additional comment on the ball room, is that we (the board, the house and grounds committee) consider the ballroom to be a “historic” building, and therefore we don’t want to do anything that would significantly change the look or feel of the room. The old concern of the court colors came up again, and as many of you know, we had a survey to determine the club’s feeling about this issue. Along with the color, we also asked whether we should change the speed of the court, and the softness. The results were approximately 60% in favor of not doing anything to the courts. In this same survey, we asked about the possibility of leveling off the area between court 1 and Tunnel road. The results were strongly in favor of doing this, and putting either 1 or 2 pickle ball courts, or possibly a ball machine “hitting alley”, along with basketball hoops and maybe another backboard. This needs to be coordinated with the UTR people who want to put stands there. We will pursue this further in 2020. Currently, we are working on two clubhouse projects: The first is to continue the updating of the café area by updating the office area. Plans have been available, and currently cabinets are being built. Once things are ready to install, we will proceed to do this work. The second clubhouse project is the upstairs kitchen. The room has been cleaned up and old cabinetry has been cleared out. Once we were able to do that, we were able to better see what we could do. We are now in the process of making plans, and to share this information, we will be putting a sink into the wall on the stairway, with a microwave and cabinets. Also a closet which will hold tables and chairs. We will then be able to use this room for exercise overflow, and occasional meetings.
