  5. EVIT EAST VALLEY INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY • Students must earn 12 total credits by the end of 10 th grade (core credits required for graduation included). Also need to meet EVIT’s academic, attendance and disciplinary requirements. • Make sure to include EVIT English 11 as well as EVIT for your 3 elective choices on your online registration. • EVIT Registration- March 2 nd here at Casteel • Students spend a half-day at EVIT and the other half-day at Casteel. • District transportation is available to and from EVIT (Main Campus and East Campus) for all programs with the exception of Aesthetics/Cosmetology. • To learn more about EVIT programs visit www.evit.com.   6. HONORS CLASSES  The Honors curriculum is geared toward freshmen and sophomores.  Grades in Honors classes are weighted.  Honors classes are often taken in preparation for the transition to Advanced Placement courses in junior and senior years.

  7. ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) COURSES  These accelerated courses prepare students to take the national AP exams (given in the spring) as well as help them prepare for the rigors of college.  If students score well on the AP exam, they may be granted advanced placement status and/or college credit.

  8. DUAL CREDIT COURSES  Dual credit courses earn both high school and college credit for the same class. Guaranteed credit with a C or higher.  Refer to the back of your registration form for dual credit eligible courses. (DC)

NEW Science Class – JUNIOR HIGH STEM Research Methods  Year-long course  Cool/Fun experiments in ALL disciplines of Science/Technology/Engineering/Math (STEM)  Enhanced Research Methods Instruction (similar to Language Arts, but geared towards Science/Technical writing)  Competing in Science and Engineering competitions/fairs: Casteel, Hamilton (HISEF), AZSEF (state level), other engineering, environmental contests/challenges that could win you FABULOUS PRIZES/SCHOLARSHIPS!!!!!!!!!!  Counts as an ELECTIVE (still need on-level or honors Science course in 7 th /8 th )

AP BIO IOLOGY College Level Introductory Biology Course *Earn up to 8 credit hours (BIO181+lab, BIO182+lab) *Available for dual enrollment *Attend a field trip to Catalina Is Island Labs include: DNA Fingerprinting, DNA transformation, Animal Behavior, Enzymes, Photosynthesis, Cellular Respiration and much more!

AP Environmental Science (APES) 11 th and 12 th Grades Full year - 1.0 Lab Science Credit Grade Level - 11,12 Prerequisite: Successful completion of Biology & Chemistry This course will prepare students to take the College Board’s AP exam in May. Must score a 4 or 5 to receive credit. APES is designed to be equivalent to a one semester introductory college level environmental science course. This course is offered as dual credit with Chandler-Gilbert Community College (Bio105: Environmental Biology) This course is offered as college credit at ASU (SOS110: Sustainable World)

Environmental Systems Science (ESS) 11 th and 12 th Grades Full year - 1.0 Lab Science Credit Grade Level - 11,12 Prerequisite: Successful completion of Biology and Chemistry or Investigative Science ESS is a lab course that explores forces and processes that operate in the universe in the formation of Earth. This course will emphasize a comprehensive overview of environmental issues.

TIME TO REGISTER!!! • You MUST register for your classes via your Campus Portal. • If you do not register for your classes, your counselor will pick your classes for you! • Directions are on our website, under the REGISTRATION TAB. • You MUST print out your REQUEST SUMMARY and have your parent sign! • You MUST turn in the REQUEST SUMMARY to your English teacher.
