FAMILY GOSPEL REFLECTION MAY 17, 2020 6th SUNDAY OF EASTER
OPENING PRAYER Dear Jesus, May you always teach and guide us. In your name we pray. Amen.
GOSPEL LEARNING The Gospel today is from St. John. Jesus promises to send the Holy Spirit to those who love him. Followers of Jesus show that they love him by keeping his commandments. Jesus understands that sometimes it is hard to follow him. He tells his friends that he will ask God to send the Holy Spirit as a helper. The disciples do not want Jesus to leave them. Jesus loves his disciples and he promises never to leave them alone. Jesus tells his followers that the Holy Spirit will always be with them as a teacher and a guide.
GOSPEL READING: JOHN 14:15-21 “Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit” Source: New Testament Pinoy Version Catholic Edition
The Gospel of the Lord. Source: New Testament Pinoy Version Catholic Edition
LIVING THE GOSPEL 1. SITUATION Who are the people who helped, taught, and guided you? What are the different things that you learned from them?
LIVING THE GOSPEL 2. GOSPEL THEME When we love Jesus and try to be like him, his Father sends the Holy Spirit to hold us close to Jesus. Jesus loves his Father as much as he loves us, and Jesus wants to be close to him too. Through the Holy Spirit, we have Jesus and his Father close to us. That’s why Jesus said in today’s Gospel that he will not leave us orphaned.
LIVING THE GOSPEL 3. GOSPEL CHALLENGE Through the gift of the Holy Spirit, we come to share in the love of God made known to us in Jesus. As a family, pray together, thanking God for this gift of the Holy Spirit by praying the Prayer to the Holy Spirit.
LIVING THE GOSPEL 3. GOSPEL CHALLENGE Prayer to the Holy Spirit Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful. And kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And you will renew the face of the earth. Lord, by the light of the Holy Spirit you have taught the hearts of your faithful. In the same Spirit help us to relish what is right and always rejoice in your consolation. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
TRIVIA: THE HOLY SPIRIT IS PRESENT IN OUR LIVES The Church teaches that the gift of the Holy Spirit is present in our lives in many ways. First, the whole Church is a community of people brought together by the Spirit of God. Second, the Spirit is at work at Mass and when we celebrate the sacraments. Finally, we receive the gift of this Spirit through the sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation. Source: RCL Benziger Lectionary
