FAMILY GOSPEL REFLECTION MARCH 8, 2020 2ND SUNDAY OF LENT
OPENING PRAYER Dear Jesus, Teach us on how to listen to you in prayer this Lenten season. In your name we pray. Amen.
GOSPEL LEARNING The Gospel from St. Matthew relays Jesus’ transfiguration. “Transfiguration” is a complicated word that means to be changed, to become something new and different. Jesus took His disciples: Peter, James, and John to a mountain to pray. While they were there Jesus was transformed and appeared to them as dazzling white and filled with light. Then Moses and Elijah appeared with Jesus. Finally, a cloud came over them and they heard God’s voice say, “This is my chosen one; listen to Him.”
GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 17: 1-9 “The Transfiguration of Jesus” Source: New Testament Pinoy Version Catholic Edition
“Tumayo kayo. Wag kayong matakot,” sabi nya.
The Gospel of the Lord.
LIVING THE GOSPEL 1. SITUATION What is the best thing that has ever happened to you? Did you wish that you could stay in that moment forever? What do these great experiences mean to you now? Were they just great things that happened, or they still have importance for you today?
LIVING THE GOSPEL 2. GOSPEL THEME The Transfiguration of Jesus might be described as one of Jesus’ greatest moments. It might well have been a “greatest moment” in the lives of his disciples, Peter, James, and John as well. The event offered Jesus and his disciples a foretaste of the glory that would come. It may also have been a moment that helped to sustain Jesus and his disciples through the difficult times ahead of them (e.g. events of Jesus’ Passion).
LIVING THE GOSPEL 3. GOSPEL CHALLENGE As a family, talk about some of your times of highs and lows. How have you been able to use the good times and experiences to sustain you in difficult ones? Pray a prayer of thanks for the good times and experiences that your family has had together. Pray that your family will use these experiences to sustain you during times of difficulty. Close by praying today’s psalm, Psalm 33.
TRIVIA: WHITE AS SNOW When Jesus transfigured in Mt. Hermon, his face and clothing became white as snow. White symbolizes purity of heart. Jesus, being Son of God is pure, holy, and umblemished. Source: Halo Sambuhay for Kids
