FAMILY GOSPEL REFLECTION MARCH 1, 2020 1ST SUNDAY OF LENT
OPENING PRAYER Dear Jesus, Open our hearts as we celebrate the Lenten season. In your name we pray. Amen.
GOSPEL LEARNING In the Gospel from St. Matthew, the devil presents three temptations to Jesus. The devil tempts Jesus to use his power to appease his hunger; he tempts Jesus to put God’s promise of protection to the test; and he offers Jesus all of the kingdoms of the world if Jesus will worship the devil. In each case, Jesus resists the temptation, rebuking with words from Scripture.
GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 4: 1-11 “The Temptation of Jesus” Source: New Testament Pinoy Version Catholic Edition
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew 1 Dinala ng Espiritu si Jesus sa desert para tuksuhin ng Devil.
The Gospel of the Lord.
LIVING THE GOSPEL 1. SITUATION What choices do you make every day? Are these choices good or bad?
LIVING THE GOSPEL 2. GOSPEL THEME We make different kinds of choices everyday- choices about what is right and wrong. These are called moral choices. Sometimes we might be tempted to make a bad choice. A temptation is a thought or feeling that can lead us to make a bad choice. As we start the journey through Lent, Jesus models for us how to respond to temptations as he trusted God’s word in Scripture.
LIVING THE GOSPEL 3. GOSPEL CHALLENGE The Bible teaches us what is right and wrong. When we resist temptation and make good choices by doing what is right, we are being like Jesus. We show our faith in God. Choose one Bible verse that will guide your family in making good choices this Lenten season. Each member of the family will memorize the chosen Bible verse. At the end of the day, each family member will be asked about the choices that they encountered and if they were able to make good choices, with the help of the Bible verse.
TRIVIA: BE OFF, SATAN! Jesus rebuked Satan because of his lies. His words were empty promises. Satan offered the riches and powers of the world to Jesus, but Jesus did not come to rule the material world. He is the King of both the heavens and the earth. And so whoever belongs to God, belongs to Jesus, not Satan. Source: Halo Sambuhay for Kids
