  6. OPENING PRAYER Dear Jesus, Thank you for being our King and Savior. In your name we pray. Amen.

  7. GOSPEL LEARNING The Gospel reading today comes from St. Luke. As a Church, we conclude our liturgical year and celebrate the Feast of Christ the King. The Gospel we proclaim shows the great mystery of our faith: In the moment of his crucifixion, Jesus is shown to be King and Savior of all.

  8. GOSPEL READING: LUKE 23: 35-43 “Jesus Christ Crucified on the Cross with the Two Thieves” Source: New Testament Pinoy Version Catholic Edition

The Gospel of the Lord.

  11. LIVING THE GOSPEL 1. SITUATION Have you watched a movie or read a book where one of the characters is a “king”? Describe him and his kingdom.

  12. LIVING THE GOSPEL 2. GOSPEL THEME Most of us think being a king is about being able to do whatever you want to do and not having to listen to anyone. It is about having the power, servants, riches, and the best of everything.

  13. In the Gospel, Jesus as a king is not anything like that. Jesus is the kind of king who rules by example and by being a servant to the people. He is the kind of king who wants the best for his people and will do anything, including death, to make sure they have it. We want to follow Jesus as a king and do what He asks not because of His power or wealth but because He loves us and inspires us to be like Him.

  14. LIVING THE GOSPEL 3. GOSPEL CHALLENGE In the moment of his crucifixion, Jesus is shown to be King and Savior of all. After attending the mass, kneel down in front of the crucifix and thank Jesus for expressing His great love for us.

  15. TRIVIA: CRUCIFIXION Before it became Christianity’s symbol of salvation, it was a punishment given to wrong-doers and even to slaves. The practice is found among many tribes: Egyptians, Persians, Assyrians, etc. Its history can be traced back to the Egyptians (Genesis 40:19) and Persians (Esther 7:10). 16. CLOSING PRAYER Dear Jesus, With eyes of faith, may we recognize that You are indeed King and Savior of all. In your name we pray. Amen. Our Father, Hail, Mary, Glory Be...

  17. Suggested Family Practices: 1. Attending Sunday mass. 2. Family Gospel Reflection 3. Family Movie Night (FORMED Movies) 4. Family Monthly Confession
