Kicking
Kicking, what should we coach? ¤ Lots of different ways to do it effectively ¤ Don’t make every player kick the same ¤ 2 focus points????? ¤ Ball Drop (one hand key) / Contact Point ¤ What is impacting this? What can be changed? ¤ Isolation, self-feedback, small adjustments
The C and the J – Dr Dave Alred ¤ The C shape in kicking vs the J and the I ¤ C shaped arc has a very small room error ¤ Can we help them become a J? ¤ J’s generally finish their action better getting through the ball – Commit Fully ¤ J’s and I’s more consistent and don’t break under pressure. ¤ Read – The Pressure Principle (Dr Dave Alred)
Junior Kicking Points / Drills ¤ Tennis ball – hand to foot relationship ¤ Isolation – Crane kicking -> progression ¤ Yoyo Kicking
Tennis Ball Kick - Vision ¤ Practice hand to foot relationship. ¤ Easily handled ball size, removes grip issues. ¤ Soft small squishy balls ok as well.
Crane Kick - Vision ¤ Practice hand to foot relationship. ¤ Isolates ball drop. ¤ Kids get immediate feedback, great with a partner.
