What is a SET Plan? The SET (Senior Education and Training) Plan maps out how students will work towards a; • QCE • QCIA • Certificate (VET Qualification – Nationally Recognised) • A viable work option.
Why do a SET Plan? • work as a “road map” to help students achieve • learning goals during the Senior Phase of Learning • include flexible and coordinated pathway options • assist students examine further options across education, training and employment sectors • help students communicate with parents/carers or personnel from their school/learning provider

SET Plan (ECP) Interview • October 11 th , 2019 (SFD for all students) • Ensure SET Plan is completed with Subject Selection by the end of Term 2 (exact date TBA) • Form Teachers to meet with parents and student for an interview • To ensure the correct and realistic pathway and prerequisites are selected for the student’s desired future
Yr. 11 Pre-Requisites • Pass in English and Maths at Year 10 level • Commitment to regular attendance and effort • Submission of all assessment
Pathways for Senior Phase of Learning
Qualifications QCE (Queensland Certificate of Education) or QCIA (Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement) ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank) Certificates (VET Qualification – Nationally recognised)
QCIA • Available to students that meet certain criteria • Details available from Head of Special Education
QCE Must be earned (not given) Formal Qualification Requirements Standard of Achievement - Pass Literacy and numeracy requirement Quantity of learning – completing syllabi Completed core (must remain in 3 subjects for the duration of 2 year study) Successful completion of 20 units Variety of Learning Can be attained up to 25 Years of age
Factors regarding QCE attainment • For each subject: • One QCE point is attached to Unit 1. • One QCE point is attached to Unit 2. • Two QCE points are attached to Unit 3 & 4 • (must be completed together i.e. cannot undertake Unit 3 of Physical Education and change subjects to Marine Science for Unit 4. • QCE credits will be awarded if deemed satisfactory (pass). • No credits awarded if deemed unsatisfactory (fail)

Why get a QCE? • It’s the only record that you have finished high school that you will get • It proves that you can work • It proves that you are literate and numerate • Employers will see that you have successfully completed (passed) Grade 12 • …..so, employers are looking for them.

Some Guidelines for Subject Selection All Students must select: • 6 subjects • an English Subject • at least one Mathematics Subject • subjects that align with one of the pathways outlined (ATAR / Workforce)
Checklist for selection Subject 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Do I find this subject interesting and enjoyable? Do my Year 10 results and teachers’ recommendations indicate future success? I have read the subject outline (including the recommended experiences) in the Subject Selection Handbook? Do I need this subject as a prerequisite, assumed, or recommended subject for courses I may wish to do in the future? Will the knowledge, skills or beliefs I learn be useful for a job or an aspect of life in my future that will be important?
Higher Education – ATAR Pathway • Students will receive an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank which will give them a ranking for tertiary entry across Australia. • Specifically designed for students that are studying mainly Higher Ed, however may also include some Workforce / VET courses • ATAR students should be achieving As, Bs or Cs in all of their year 10 subjects
Workforce Pathway • Designed for students that are looking at a joining the workforce after school without attending a university / completing additional study. • Possible for students to do a mix of Authority Registered subjects, VET certificate courses offered at Robert St and a VET course offered at East Coast TAFE as a part of our U-Tech program
NRT Certificates What is NRT? • A Qualification – National Recognised Training • Job related skills Why do a NRT Course? • Industry knowledge • Qualified before leaving school • Contribute to QCE • Cert III or above courses go towards ATAR score

What happens at the end of Year 10 if my child isn’t quite meeting requirements? • If students pass Maths and English at the end of Semester 1 – they are meeting Year 10 standards. • If students are unsuccessful in Maths and/or English in Semester 1 – they will be timetabled to Pre-Senior Essential (Maths/English) for Semester 2 • Students will be ineligible to study General Maths/English (ATAR pathway) in Year 11/12.
• If students are unsuccessful in Pre-Senior Essential Maths/English in Semester 2 – they will attend Summer School (Week 9 and 10 of Term 4) and re-submit any required tasks to work towards a pass standard. • If a student is still unsuccessful or refuses to attend Summer School, a conversation with Mr Barnes (Head of Year) will take place regarding future education options (such as repeating Year 10, or changing schools)
