What are the benefits? • QTLS status is recognised in law as having parity to QTS for teaching in schools • Career progression: QTLS status demonstrates your commitment, skills and knowledge to employers • Valuable CPD enabling you to consolidate your practice and develop new skills and knowledge, demonstrate the impact on your practice and learners • Opportunity to develop your digital skills and work collaboratively with colleagues • Recognition of your status as a professional teacher or trainer • Members with QTLS can use these initials as a designation 4

What is professional formation? • It is a status that is gained after achievement of an initial teacher education qualification • A continuing professional development opportunity enabling you to demonstrate how you are continuing to develop your practice underpinned by the 2014 professional standards • A combination of narrative and supporting evidence to highlight your progression • An opportunity to critically reflect on your practice in order to make improvements and to demonstrate the impact of the process of professional formation on your practice and your learners • An opportunity to show how you are continuing to apply the theory covered in your ITT course to your current practice 7
Stages of Professional Formation • Timescales: 3 cycles in the year - Spring, Summer and Winter • Current cycle: registration open until 31 October 2016 • Applicants working towards the Spring deadline of 28 February 2016, to be reviewed in March with notification of the outcome in April 2016. • Next registration window opens on 1 December 2016, closing on 31 January 2017 8
Eligibility • Evidence of an endorsed ITE qualification at Level 5, e.g. Diploma in Education and Training or a PGCE • Recently qualified teachers need to have achieved their ITE qualification for at least six months before submitting their completed workbooks for review • Maths and English qualifications at Level 2 or above (See a list at https://set.et-foundation.co.uk/media/1634124/approved- qualfications-updated-12-jan-2016.pdf) • Maths and English teachers need evidence of personal maths/English skills at Level 3 • Need to be teaching learners aged 14+ • Declaration of personal suitability (fitness to practise) • A supporter or mentor who you can support you throughout the process 9

The review and moderation process • All reviewers have been through professional formation themselves • It is an online process working in REfLECT • Each moderator has 7 reviewers and there are two lead moderators • Skype meetings held to review queries and to request missing certificates and resolve queries • Tight timescales in working towards final evaluation meeting so that each review is completed within one month • Rigorous, but flexible. Average achievement rate of 90% • Opportunity to reapply 16

Steps for applying for QTLS 1. Check your eligibility 2. Choose your registration window and register, paying an initial deposit of £100 3. Decide on who will be your supporter 4. Complete your on-line workbook, using the Guidance for Applicants for support 5. Send your completed workbook to us by the deadline date, paying the final balance of fees (£385) 18
