Third Sector Overview • Estimated 45,000 voluntary organisations, • 23,700 registered charities, including 163 housing associations. • 20,000 grass roots community groups, sports and arts clubs • Over 3,500 social enterprises • 4000 grant making trusts, funding activities in Scotland and abroad • 423 community interest companies • 107 credit unions • The Third Sector works alongside, but separate from the first and second sectors i.e. (Private and public sectors). Third Sector Interfaces – Contact Info Third Sector Interfaces (TSI’s) are based in each of the 32 local authority areas across Scotland and provide a range of services to sport clubs as part of their remit to support community groups, voluntary organisations, charities, social enterprises, co-operatives and individual volunteers. Find your local TSI. Services that are available include: • Support to meet PVG obligations • Advice on achieving good governance • Help to identify and make improvements within the organisation • Encourage & support to ensure a diverse range of volunteers to sit on committees/boards • Signposting to advice and financing support both locally and nationally A complete list of services commonly offered by all is here
