Year of Young People - Context • Scottish Governments themed year programme • 2018 – Year of Young People • Scottish Youth Parliament, Children in Scotland and Young Scot led an Interim Planning Group (all young people) through a consultation process across Scotland • Interim Planning Group produced a report of findings and an aim and outcomes were signed off by Scottish Governments Advisory Board
Year of Young People - Aim • Provide a platform for young people (aged 8-26 years) to have their views heard and acted upon • Showcase the amazing talents of young people through events and media • Develop better understanding, co-operation and respect between generations • Recognise the impact of teachers, youth workers and other supporting adults on young people’s lives • Provide opportunities for young people to express themselves through culture, sport and other activities
Year of Young People - Outcomes • Young people have greater say in decisions that affect their lives • Improved public perception of young people • More opportunities for intergenerational work and conversations • Young people have more opportunities to take part in positive activities and experiences
Year of Young People - Outcomes • Young people have the opportunity to access a range of sports and activities with opportunities for all to get involved, progress and achieve. • Young people have more leadership opportunities so young people are encouraged and supported to reach their potential in leadership roles.

Active Strand • Young people in Scotland aged 8-26 are more physically active supported by concessions and discounts, eat more healthily, have better mental health. • Young people have developed news skills and confidence through sport and physical activity. • Young people are more engaged with and able to influence sport and physical activity in their local communities.
sportscotland YOYP 2018 • Appointment of a YoYP sportscotland intern • Working with local and national partners • Encouraging co-design approach – getting partners to consider how they are working/engaging with young people • Developing a YoYP toolkit with our YPSP – this will provide tools for partners to use to help them effectively engage with young people • Key dates, opportunities and Profile • Working with partners to help deliver key opportunities for Young People throughout the year • Follow #YOYP2018 to stay up to date
sportscotland YOYP 2018 YPSP • Young People Sports Panel contribution • Recruitment of the 4 th panel • YPSP Toolkit • Young People as Leaders Event • Proposed Club Open Doors Week • Would be looking for all hubs and clubs to open their doors to young people in their community for the week / weekend or day to give them the opportunity to come and try a new sport • TBC: Monday 24 th Sept – Sunday 30 th Sept

Support • Staffing: Dedicated Project Worker support for all sport scotland- invested SGBs • Resources/Tools: – Self assessment tool for SGBs – Guidance and template policies/procedures – e-bulletin • Sharing of good practice facilitated through: website , learning sets, annual report, network groups • Training and Education: optional masterclasses, live Facebook sessions /webinars, SGB L&D programme
