Our story Saint Kilda Handball Club is based in Melbourne, Victoria. The club was created in 2012 and has grown very rapidly to become the number 1 club in Melbourne, playing every week end in the local league. Our players represent the diversity of Australia with a lot of different culture and background on the court playing together. Thanks to our position as the leading handball team in Victoria, we have been competing at national and continental level managing to two 2 nd at the Oceania Championship in recent years. With handball gathering momentum in Australia, increased media interest and improved infrastructure 2016 will definitely be a great year for St Kilda HBC.
Key dates for 2016 March 2016 – Victoria Autumn Season starts Saint Kilda is entering 2 men’s team in the competition this year 2 nd to 5 th of June 2016 – Oceania Championship in Geelong A tournament between the top teams of Australia, Tahiti, New Caledonia, New Zealand, and Samoa. The winner will qualify for the IHF Super Globe. September 2016 – IHF Super Globe in Doha, Qatar The official Club World Championship between the continental champions including FC Barcelona. October 2016 - Australian National Championship 2016 in Sydney The highest level club handball competition in Australia.
Oceania Club Championship • Played at in Geelong from 2-5 June 2016 • Includes champions and runner up from Tahiti, New Caledonia, New Zealand and Australia. • Participation already confirmed by Dumbea (NC), JSMD (NC), Sydney Uni (Au), St Kilda hbc (Au), Auckland (NZ) and Wellington (NZ) • Mass media coverage across Australia and Oceania including TV coverage and press daily. • Large event attendance every day • Coverage across selected European Media in Europe, especially in France and Germany
IHF Super Globe • Played in Doha, Qatar in September 2016 • Includes continental champions from Europe, Asia, Africa, South America and Oceania • Participation already confirmed by FC Barcelona (Spain) • All game live on Be in Sport world wide • Large event attendance every day • Coverage in Australia through social media and leading press. • Coverage across selected European Media in Europe and the middle east
Handball League Australia To spearhead the growth of handball in Australia, a new national league will be introduced in 2016 – initially concentrating elite level male handball in the 4 leading markets of Brisbane, Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne. • Saint Kilda HBC has been selected to represent Melbourne • 4-month competition period (May to August) • 4 games in 2 days in each of the 4 cities • A strong social media campaign from day one 2016 is planned as a ‘beta’ year with 4 teams (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra) – with the aim to expand to 8 teams by 2020
