  2. REGISTRATION FOR 8th GRADE 1. 8th grade registration packets consist of the 8th grade course selection form 2. It must be completed and turned into your World History teacher by Wednesday March 21, 2018 3. You must also complete Residency Verification by March 30

  3. SELECTING CLASSES FOR 8TH GRADE 1. You will be selecting: English, PE, Elective 2. 0 period to start school at 7:20am (optional for students) 3. All students will be automatically enrolled in US History, 8 th grade Science and the next course in the math sequence.

  4. STEP 1 . Fill out the Course Selection Form. It is a contract because your signature will indicate that you understand it and that you will abide by it. Step 2: Log into (with your parents) an Aeries Parent Portal account. Students will also select their courses ONLINE. The online registration window will open on March 13 and will close on March 21.

Current Math Level Course Progress Math Sequence Grade 8 Math A Essentials Course Completion Integrated Math B Essentials Summer school option for students currently earning an A, B, or C who wish to take Integrated Math B in the fall. Contact counselor for more information. Math A Course Completion Integrated Math B Summer school available for students who earn a D/F. Contact counselor for more information. Students earning an A and considering Math B Honors are encouraged to take independent study summer bridge. Contact counselor for more information.   6. MATH PLACEMENT CONTINUED 1. If you are not in Math A Honors this year, but would like to take Math B Honors in 8th grade please speak to your math teacher for their recommendation and then have your parents email Mrs. Craven. 2. If you move from regular to honors math then you are encouraged to complete the online, independent study Summer Bridge in order to prepare.

  7. ENGLISH COURSE Please make a careful and thoughtful decision based on your abilities and dedication to studies because you will be making a year long commitment. If you are not in Honors English 7 but would like to be in Honors English 8 , please review the course profiles on the EWMS counseling website so you are making an informed decision.

  8. PHYSICAL EDUCATION PE is Co Ed PE uniform is required Lockers are assigned to each student Curriculum: pickleball - street hockey - soccer - flag football - softball - team handball - large group recreational activities - volleyball - stretches - frisbee - interclass competitions - basketball - ping pong

  9. SURF PE Learn about ocean safety through collaborative lessons with local lifeguards. Enjoy bodyboarding or surfing under the watchful eye of our Surf PE “supervisors.” Students are not provided instruction how on how to surf or bodyboard. However, beginners are welcome. You must pass a swim test in the first 2 weeks of school Due to popular demand, not all students who request Surf PE will get it. Space is limited.

  10. Independent Study Physical Education You must complete an ISPE Application EVERY YEAR! ISPE applications are only accepted April 16 to June 1, 2018. We do not allow students to switch into ISPE in the middle of the year. 1) Individualized sports only (no team sports) 2) Students are accepted on a case by case basis 3) Music students may take ISPE as a 7th class and choose a second elective 5th period only an option if students select 0 period 6th period (Monday, Wednesday, Friday afternoon)

  12. Courses with additional forms The following courses require additional forms which are available online in the “optional forms” section of the registration page. They are Google Forms that are submitted online and must be completed by March 21, 2018. ● Leadership/ASB ● Adv. STEM

  13. WORLD LANGUAGE 1. You must earn a C or better in Spanish I to move on to Spanish II. Begin your world language no later than 9 th grade. 2. In 9 th grade, additional choices are French, Japanese, Chinese and 3. American Sign Language may be available (depending on which high school you attend).

  14. CONCERT BAND AND GUITAR You may enroll in Band/Guitar for your elective and select one of the PE options for your PE class. Or, you may choose to enroll in Band/Guitar and select an additional elective IF you concurrently enroll in ISPE (you must meet the ISPE requirements). Select ISPE Course #0060 online

  15. CHOOSE WISELY 1. We are scheduling for the whole year. 2. Schedule changes will not be made to accommodate teacher requests, classes with friend requests, period requests, carpools or extracurricular and athletic activities. 3. SDUHSD Board Policy sets a four-week limit at the beginning of each semester to drop a class. Level changes (from honors to college prep) may be requested during this four-week period if there is space available .

  16. COURSE SELECTION FORM 1. Read the Instructions VERY CAREFULLY WITH YOUR PARENT 2. View the Course Descriptions online to learn more about courses 3. Course selections will not be officially recognized without a parent/guardian signature on the contract 4. You must choose your courses online and submit the Course Selection form 5. March 21 is the last day to complete course selections online 6. If you change your mind, June 1st is the last day to make schedule changes with the counseling office

  17. ONLINE SELECTION Your parents must have an active Aeries Parent Portal account (have your parent contact the counseling secretary immediately if they do not!) Window to submit is March 13 – May 21 Refer to Course Selection Form for course offerings

  22. REMEMBER Your 8 th Grade Registration packet is due on Wednesday, March 1. 21 to your history teacher. 2. If you have not yet turned in your Verification of Residency (This is due March 30), your 8 th grade registration will be incomplete. This will effect receiving first come on electives or surf PE requests. 3. Make sure you have selected your courses online prior to this day.
