  5. GENERAL OBSERVATIONS FROM THE FALL ANALYSIS IN 2015 150 (89%) of fallers had competed at less than 10 events as a combination • Out of those, 35 fallers (21%) fell at their first event as a combination • Gender and age is not a factor! 75% of fallers were female but 75% of riders are • female

  6. EVENTING IRELAND AND EQUIRATINGS TEAM UP IN 2016 In 2016 Eventing Ireland is taking additional measures to promote rider safety • Eventing Ireland has teamed up with EquiRatings – the Advanced Equine Analytics company • Five years of national results have been analysed to produce an EquiRatings Quality Index (ERQI) base • level for each class This data will work in tandem with the safety measures already employed by EI (MER’s, stewards, • frangible pins, rider training etc)

  7. RIDER SAFETY IN 2016 In a nutshell: • Athletes will be shown a traffic light system (Green, Amber, Red) based on the ERQI base line • when they go to enter an event Red shows there has been issues (falls, stops etc) and the rider will be prevented from entering • that horse at its current level and will be advised to move down a level first The manual process of checking results every week is now automated! • EquiRatings will present later in more detail how their system works •

  8. RIDER RESPONSIBILITY AND AWARENESS Eventing Ireland is giving the rider responsibility to make decisions based on the results data for their • chosen horse Only the rider will be able to see their ERQI rating – it is confidential to that riders account • Results from each event will be sent automatically overnight to EquiRatings for analysis • The revised ERQI will be available on the Monday morning – before close of entries for the next event • giving the latest ERQI for that horse/class

  9. LEVEL OF COMPETITION Eventing Ireland realises the level of one competition varies from event to event • External factors also influence the number of finishers (weather, ground conditions etc) • An event with top class athletes will be weighted differently from an event with no top riders • All this information is recorded into our scoring system and this data is sent to EquiRatings to be • analysed. An event has a rating (on the day) – this will be different every time as factors will not be the same

  10. NEXT STEPS Eventing Ireland and EquiRatings will be closely monitoring the data for 2016 and with new data being • analysed every week, we can improve continue to promote rider safety (moving the base rating higher or lower depending on the results) EI/ER will review and analyse the results at the end of the 2016 season to see if there has been a drop • in falls. (There are already a number of horses identified as red) Watch this space! •
