NOTES REPORTS AND PRESENTATIONS AGENDA ITEM IX-2 US 41 (SR45) TRAFFIC SEPARATOR PROJECT FROM GULFSTREAM AVENUE TO SOUTH OF FRUITVILLE ROAD Presenter: FDOT Project Manager Chris Zeigler and FDOT Consultant Kris Cella, Cella Molnar & Associates, Inc. Summary: The Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) design for resurfacing US 41 from Browning Street to 11 th Street in Sarasota is underway. During design FDOT reviewed traffic information for the corridor and determined that a northbound right turn lane is needed to help with traffic flow from Gulfstream Avenue to Fruitville Road. To construct the right turn lane, a traffic separator will be constructed from Gulfstream Avenue to south of Fruitville Road, a distance of approximately 1,200 feet. Construction of the traffic separator will eliminate left turn movements from US 41 onto side streets and driveways and eliminate left turn movements from side streets and driveways onto US 41 in this area. Construction is expected to begin in the Summer of 2016. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District One, is holding a Public Hearing regarding a new traffic separator project on US 41 (SR 45) from Gulf Stream Avenue to south of Fruitville Road in downtown Sarasota. Draft design plans are available for review on August 10, 2015 at the Selby Library located at 1331 1 st Street in downtown Sarasota. Library hours are 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday. • Addition of right-turn lane will help alleviate traffic backups along US 41 south of Fruitville Road • Improvement will help alleviate traffic backups along Gulfstream/John Ringling Blvd • Temporary changes demonstrated the improvement
