GOBELINS: still and animated images Gobelins is one of the top French schools specialising in applied arts, print and digital media and has been training professionals for nearly 50 years: • Photography (since 1963) • Graphic communication and printing (since 1969) • Animation film making (since 1975) • Video and broadcast technology (since 1984) • Interactive and digital communication (multimedia) (since 1991) Courses can be studied full time, or part-time while working as an apprentice inside a company. There are also adult training courses for working professionals.

  3. Student body and faculty • Over 700 students including 390 apprentices. • 1 200 trainees in professional training courses. • 90 % of graduates find a job within 6 months • 45 permanent teachers • 400 visiting professionals to teach courses

Educational trips, student exchanges. • International summer school: Animation Film Making. • Master classes in Animation Film Making in Asia. • European course ‘Animation sans frontières’ (Animation Without Borders) : Gobelins, Filmakademie in Germany, MOME in Hungary, Animation Workshop in Denmark. • Exhibitions, trade shows abroad.

Project-based teaching • The courses have 3 dimensions: creative skills, technical skills and professional skills. • Group work develops individual and team work skills. • Projects of professional quality produced to order: short films for the opening ceremony of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, interactive marketing and communication tools, design of visual identities etc.

Specificities of interactive projects • Project development for specific professional sector and users (schools, hospitals, companies, art institutions…) • Projects produced in collaboration with an expert of the target sector to define context, standards, uses • Production teams seek functional but innovative design and techniques • Content enhancement by artistic flair and creativity • Ultimate goal : added value

  8. On the red carpet in Hollywood • In 2009, the Gobelins student animation film OKTAPODI nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Animation Short.
