What is a Comprehensive Plan? • A Comprehensive Plan is a long-range vision for the future of the community. • It serves as a guide for how the township can become the place it strives to be. • Provides a framework for making big-picture decisions • Guides development in different areas of the community • Promotes and strengths valued community assets, and encourages new partnerships and opportunities 6
Comprehensive Plan Task 1: Kick-off, base maps, website, and meeting June 2017 • Meet with staff to kick off project and review scope, schedules, and related matters • Meet with the Planning Commission and Township Staff • Create a social media plan • Plan Preparation Notices • Data collection & Inventory • Update and assess demographic data • Create base maps 7

Comprehensive Plan Task 3: Analysis (what’s working & what needs work) July - September 2017 • Land Use Plan . Provide a preliminary analysis of the Township’s land use strategies, including successes and challenges. • Redevelopment Ready Communities. Principles of the RRC program will be applied. Priority sites for redevelopment will be identified. 9
Comprehensive Plan Task 4: Review Goals and Objectives October – November 2017 • Goals and Objectives . Work with the Planning Commission in reviewing the previous goals, policies, and objectives. Decide what should continue to be applied and if any new elements should be considered. 10
Comprehensive Plan Task 5: Plan Preparation November 2017 – February 2018 • Future Land Use Plan • Implementation Strategies The Future Land Use Map will be updated as part of the Master Land Use Plan – and will reflect the goals and objectives of the other planning documents. 11
Comprehensive Plan Task 6: Distribute Draft to Other Reviewing Agencies February – March 2018 • Assist in preparing for the distribution of the draft plan to surrounding communities and designated agencies and utilities. 12
Comprehensive Plan Task 7: Public Hearing and Adoption March – April 2018 • Prepare notice of public hearing in accordance with the Michigan Planning Enabling Act • Present draft Plan at the public hearing. Prepare Resolutions of Adoption. • Assist Planning Commission and Township Board with final adoption procedures 13
Comprehensive Plan Task 8: Plan Prep and Printing May 2018 • Final draft: Prepare document for printing and/or electronic copies on cd. Print complete document for distribution. • Print & Transmit Adopted Plan: Print Comprehensive Plan for final distribution as hard copy and an electronic document in PDF format. Coordinate with township staff to ensure the adopted Plan is distributed in accordance with State law. • Executive Summary: Create an Executive Summary brochure or poster of the Comprehensive Plan. This format provides the Township with an excellent, low-cost method of sharing a concise summary of the Comprehensive Plan document with the public. 14
