  2. Space the Animated Place The aim of this project was to create a collaborative, animated film based on the character we would develop in groups, based of the idea of monsters and spirits. In the exquisite corpse task we created the character called ‘The Dream Eater’ We then had to create this character as a model using whatever materials we could scavenge from around the university .

  3. Space the Animated Place The backstory we came up with was that he was the god of the dream world and the personification of imagination. He has the ability to create and manipulate and steal peoples dreams. He needs to consume these dreams in order to survive and sustain himself. However, the thing he fears most is nightmares as these types of dreams corrupt him and alter his body into monstrous shapes. Therefore he only tries to steal peoples good dreams- happy dreams, peoples imagination, hopes, and ambitions.

  6. Space the Animated Place Stop motion and model making skills • Making: I had not had much experience before making 3D models and puppets previously so this field project gave me a chance to develop my model making skills as well as learning how to create and animate using an armature. • Problem solving skills- the model was quite fragile and it was quite difficult trying to find a way for it to move • The stop motion and lighting skills I learnt in this project were also helpful for my next field project.

  7. Space the Animated Place Skills Digital skills As well as my practical skills, I was able to develop my digital skills in this project by learning how to use green screen. I was also able to develop my compositing and 3D tracking skills with After effects. I also managed to develop my skills with tv paint as well. Problem solving- issues with keying out the background, having to change the colour of the model. The green screen and after effects skills I learnt and developed in this project were very useful, particularly in my second field project, moving the museum.

  8. Space the Animated Place Skills Idea development: I have learnt new ways to develop ideas and characters. By doing the exquisite corps task it showed me a more improvisational way of creating and developing ideas. Character development: This project was a good opportunity to go over some of the character development work from last year and familiarize myself with it. This helped me when I started developing my characters for my final film proposal. Philosophy of creating: This project offered me a new way of looking at creating animation. Animation usually has a more structured way of working, whereas in this project tried to encourage us to work more on instinct.

  9. Space the Animated Place Teamworking skills: Working in a group has allowed me to develop my team working skills with people outside my discipline • Being able to work as effectively as part of a team is very important for animation, especially on production project . I found It could be quite challenging at times working in a group for this project as almost all of the group had little to no previous experience with animation. • It also became challenging when some members of the group did not contribute their fair share of work and wouldn’t show up on time or at all to work with the group. This meant almost all of the work was left to myself and Aya. • However In the end we were able to produce a final film that we were mostly pleased with.

  10. Moving the Museum The aim of the ‘moving the museum’ project was to create either an image, moving image or object as a response to the collection on display at the national museum . The nature of the piece of work was completely up to us to decide what we wanted to create. based on this brief I wanted to use this as an opportunity to develop on my previous metamorphosis project from last year and make use of the skills I had developed in my last field project. I knew I wanted to make a kind of still life with the object from the museum morphing into one another.

  11. Moving the Museum I used photographs and drawings I had of the objects in the museum in the animation and animated them so they would morph and change into each other. I choose to include the objects and specimens that would fit in with the idea of memento mori- skulls butterflies and flowers, which were themes I used in the metamorphosis project.

  14. Moving the Museum Skills • Research: • I have also learned new ways of finding and taking inspiration beyond animation by looking at and researching the objects in the museum as well as looking at new artists- Paul bush and Duchamp. Idea development: • Observational drawing and use these as a way to develop my ideas. • It was also helpful seeing other practices responses to the brief and getting other people responses to my own project.

  15. Moving the Museum • Animation skills: • This project gave me a chance to develop my animation skills in particular my stop- motion skills, as well as my after effects skills- comping, motion tracking, green screen. • On this project as well I had the chance to build a stop- motion set, which I hadn’t had the chance to before.

  16. Moving the Museum • The experience of working on this project has helped me to bring together both my field and subject work. The project gave me an opportunity to revisit previous themes and ideas together from previous subject work. I was able to go back over my work for metamorphosis project and use this field project as a way to improve on the ideas and images I had started developing there. • As a result of the work I completed in this project, I feel my own practice within my subject has become more focused. I feel that I have found a visual style that works and that interests me. As well as this I feel I found themes and styles with memento mori/vanitas style that inspired and interests me. These are all things I wanted to take forward into my work for my final project.
