Information To Know • In January 2014, the Texas State Board of Education established the rules that govern House Bill 5 (HB5) and the Foundation Graduation Program requirements for the 2014-2015 freshman class. • Current 8 th graders will be affected by these rules and will have more choices related to courses for high school graduation. 5 3/18/2014

Notes of Interest • Students are encouraged to take rigorous coursework that supports their college and career goals. • At the end of the 10 th grade year, with written parental consent, a student may move to the 22 credit Foundation Plan that does not include an endorsement. This move would occur under rare circumstances, and counselors will advise students and parents of the benefits of an Endorsement. 24 3/18/2014

  26. Getting Into College A student must graduate at the distinguished level of achievement to be eligible for automatic admission to a Texas university or college through the Top Ten Percent. A student who is not eligible for automatic admission may apply to any college or university if the student completes the Foundation Graduation Plan and achieves the appropriate admission requirements. Earning a distinguished level of achievement with an Endorsement and taking college prep courses such as Algebra II will help all students meet college ready requirements. 26 3/18/2014
