Multidisciplinary Studies A Multidisciplinary Studies Endorsement is earned by: ● Four credits in each of the four core subject areas to include English IV and CHemistry and/or Physics OR ● Four Credits in Advanced Placement or Dual Credit selected from English, Math, Science and Social Studies OR A total of four (4) additional/advanced credits that prepare the student to ● enter postsecondary education without the need for remediation, or successfully enter the workforce

  14. STEM A STEM Endorsement is earned by completing: ● 5 credits in Math : Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and two advanced math courses OR ● 5 credits in Science: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and two Advanced Science Courses

Business & Industry A Business and Industry endorsement can be earned by completing a coherent sequence of 4 or more credits with at least two in the same career cluster including including at least one advanced CTE course: Agriculture: Animal Studies ● Agriculture: Plant Studies ● ● Agriculture: Applied Agriculture Engineering ● Entrepreneurship: Automotive Entrepreneurship: Business ● Entrepreneurship: Construction ●

Distinguishment Level of Achievement A student may earn a distinguished level of achievement by successfully completing: A total of four credits in Math including Algebra II ● A total of four credits in Science ● ● Remaining curriculum requirements ● Curriculum requirements for at least one endorsement ***A student must earn distinguished level of achievement to be eligible for top 10% automatic admission.

Performance Acknowledgements A student may earn a performance acknowledgement for: ● Outstanding performance: ○ In a dual credit course At least 12 hours with a grade equivalent of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale ● ○ In bilingualism and biliteracy English 4 + 3 years of same foreign language with grade of 80 or above in all classes ■ ○ On an AP Exam A score of 3 or higher on a College Board AP Exam ■ ● On the PSAT, the ACT-Plan, the SAT, or the ACT ○ Earning a score on the PSAT that qualifies the student for recognition as commended scholar or higher ○ A combined critical reading and mathematics score of at least 1250 on the SAT A composite score of 28 on the ACT (excluding the writing) ○

Automatic Admission In accordance with Texas Education Code (TEC), §51.803, a student is eligible for automatic admission to a Texas public college or university as an undergraduate student if the student earned a grade point average in the top 10 percent of the student's high school graduating class or in the percentage of qualified applicants that are anticipated to be offered admission to the University of Texas at Austin* (~ top 6% ), and the applicant (1) successfully completed the requirements for the Recommended High School Program (RHSP) or the Distinguished Achievement Program (DAP); (2) earned the distinguished level of achievement under the Foundation High School Program ; or (3) satisfied ACT's College Readiness Benchmarks on the ACT assessment or earned on the SAT assessment a score of at least 1,500 out of 2,400 or the equivalent.

  22. Course Selection Process ● Students will attend a session displaying high school career elective options in the BJHS gym on February 20th . This will allow the students to ask questions about the different elective course options from teachers and HS students. ● 8 th grade students will then meet with the counselors to help choose classes for 9 th grade. ● Counselors will be available for questions after school until 6:00 on Monday and Tuesday, February 24 th and 25th ■ Appointments are not necessary but can be made to accommodate your schedule ■ Please call 979-865-3681 to speak to a counselor

  26. How do you choose an endorsement? Refer to the Endorsement Crosswalk found in the course catalog

  27. Choose courses wisely!!! Classes are offered and teachers are assigned based on the courses that you select NOW. Please select your courses carefully!

  28. Alternate Courses • Please choose alternate classes in case an elective you have chosen is full, not offered, or conflicts with other choices. • Schedule forms with alternate course left blank will receive last priority from counselors. • If there are no alternate courses listed, counselors will give students any electives which are open. Students lose their choices and will not be changed out of these classes.

  29. Schedule Requests/Changes ● Schedule requests will be handed out after the counselors input the student information sometime in April. Any requests for changes should be made before May 1 st !!! ● All students will have the opportunity to pick up schedules before the first day of classes for next school year as well. ● Schedule changes in the fall will be limited to correct scheduling errors or to equalize class enrollments after the first day of school for 2020-2021.
