This is updated every single year in high school with your counselor. • Graduation Plan — Foundation, Foundation with Endorsement, Foundation with Endorsement — Distinguished Achievement • Endorsement (see following slides)

  9. What is an Endorsement? Texas Education Agency • Endorsements consist of a related series of courses that are grouped together by interest or skill set. • They provide students with in-depth knowledge of a subject area.

  10. ENDORSEMENTS • Business & Industry • STEM • Multidisciplinary • Public Services • Arts & Humanities

  11. Multidisciplinary • 4 Credits in each of the four foundation subject areas to include English IV and Chemistry and/or Physics • 4 AP courses to include one credit in each of the four foundation subjects • 4 Advanced Courses from within one endorsement area that are not in coherent sequence. (Advanced elective courses do not include Intro or Principle courses).

  12. New Courses • MJROTC • Housed at MHS • Takes up 2 class periods in your schedule • This means you can earn 7 credits per year rather than 8. • Transportation to/from LCHS provided • Can count as your PE credit

  13. New Courses • Principles of Hospitality and Tourism • Part of the Business & Industry Endorsement — Culinary Arts Pathway • This course provides an introduction to the hospitality and tourism industry. Topics include lodging, travel and tourism, recreation, amusements, attractions, resorts, and restaurant and food beverage service.

  14. What does all of this mean for me? • We want you to make informed decisions about the courses you take in high school. Make sure you’re signing up for the required courses. Make sure you’re signing up for the courses that are the best fit for you (i.e., on-level, advanced, etc.) • You have to pick an endorsement when you register for your classes in a couple of weeks. You are not stuck with this endorsement forever (you can change it in high school).

  15. High School is More than a GPA and Class Rank • While these two things matter, your high school experience is so much more than numbers on a piece of paper. • We want you involved in something! We want you to take classes that interest you. • Find the list of clubs/organizations on the LCHS website. Many will be represented at the Academic Fair. Visit their tables to learn about them. • We want to see depth…not breadth.
