  2. ⚫ Benold Middle School was the second middle school to open in Georgetown. ⚫ It opened in the fall of 1996. ⚫ The school was named after Dr. Douglas Benold. Welcome to ⚫ School colors – Blue & White Benold Middle ⚫ School mascot – Eagle School

  3. ⚫ All 6 th grade students will take 7 classes: ⚫ English/Language Arts ⚫ Math ⚫ Science ⚫ Social Studies ⚫ PE/Health or Pre-Athletics A 6th grader’s ⚫ Fine Arts (Band, Choir, Orchestra, Art, Theater) - class schedule two ⚫ Description of the courses can be found in the Georgetown ISD Course Catalog: www.georgetownisd.org

  4. ⚫ 4 Core Classes each year (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies) ⚫ 1 PE Class Middle School ⚫ 2 Fine Arts (Taken in 6 th grade) Academic ⚫ Personalized Learning Path (PLP) Expectations ⚫ State-mandated curriculum (TEKS-based curriculum) ⚫ Focus on comprehension, application, analysis and synthesis of subject area content processes and skills

Math pathway 1 for 6th grade covers the 6th grade math content, preparing students to learn the 7th grade math Math pathway 2 for 6th grade content in their 7th grade year. covers the 7th grade math content, preparing students to learn the 8th grade math content in their 7th grade year. Math pathway 3 for 6th grade covers the 7th/8th grade math compacted, preparing students to take Algebra in their 7th grade year Math Pathways Pathway 2 for 6th grade covers the 7th grade math content for incoming 6th graders Students will be enrolled in the next level of math according to their current math pathway placement in the 5th grade. Should students have a change in math placement based on the screening process, families will receive notification and adjustments will be made to reflect these changes in May.

  6. ⚫ All 6 th graders will take PE/Health or Pre-Athletics ⚫ UIL Sports will be available to students next year in grades 7 and 8: Football, Basketball, Track, Volleyball, (Soccer & Cross Country offered before or after school) ⚫ Tennis is a separate class offered to 7th and 8th graders only PE/Health & ⚫ All 6th graders will take two elective Fine Arts ⚫ All electives for 6th graders are Fine Arts ⚫ The 6th graders will choose between: Art, Band, Choir, Orchestra, & Elective Theater *Every effort will be made to schedule students into their first choice elective. However, class size limitations and other scheduling factors may require placement in a student’s second or third choice elective.

What is Pre-Advanced Placement (Pre-AP)? ⚫ Academically advanced courses designed to challenge students ⚫ Designed to prepare students for high school level Pre-AP and AP courses ⚫ Courses offered in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies Are you ready for Pre-AP? ⚫ Level III Advanced Standard on previous year’s STAAR is recommended for preparedness Pre-AP ⚫ Teacher recommendation based on classroom work ethic, motivation, and average of 85 or better Courses How can you be successful in Pre-AP courses? ⚫ Stay Organized ⚫ Be Responsible ⚫ Be Self-motivated (Wanting to go the extra-mile in learning) ⚫ Develop Good Study-Skills ⚫ Take Pre-AP courses that are appropriate to your interests and academic strengths

  17. Steps to Completing 6 th Grade Course Selection Worksheet Course Selection Worksheet ⚫ Circle one course selection for each number: 1, & 3-5. Completing ⚫ All students will rank fine art electives 1-5 (1 being your 1 st the Course choice). Selection ⚫ Student and parent signatures are required. Worksheet ⚫ Completed worksheets are due to your child’s 5 th grade teacher no later than Friday, February 7th.

  19. Schedule change requests must be made in writing, with a parent signature, within five (5) days of the start of class . Requests may not be approved. Georgetown ISD Secondary Requests for schedule changes will be approved for the following reasons: ⚫ Error in schedule Schools ⚫ Student was unsuccessful in passing the prerequisite course Schedule ⚫ Change in program/level (athletics, band, choir, orchestra, etc.) Change ⚫ Level changes as recommended by teachers and counselor with parental Guidelines knowledge and principal approval More information regarding the Georgetown ISD Secondary Schools Schedule Change Guidelines are available in the Georgetown ISD Middle School Course Catalog.

Petition for Pre-AP/AP Course Exit may be requested twice during the school year: Georgetown within the 3 rd and 6 th week of the first nine-week grading period ISD Pre-AP/AP (to begin in an on-level course within the first nine-weeks); Level Change ~ OR ~ Guidelines the first ten (10) school days of December (to begin in an on-level course for the spring semester) More information regarding the Georgetown ISD Pre-AP/AP Course Commitment and the Georgetown ISD Petition for Pre-AP/AP Course Exit are available in the Georgetown ISD Middle School Course Catalog.
