  1. College Fair Handbook Alumni Admission Volunteer Program

  2. College Fair Goals • Increase name recognition of Kalamazoo College • Reach a larger audience of prospective students • Give basic and often introductory information about the College

  3. Materials and Preparation • Table Cloth • Mini Viewbooks • Student Contact Cards • Business Cards for Territory Admission Counselor • CTCL Table Tent/Common App Table Tent • Digital Viewbook Postcard • Reference Folder • Blank Postcards/Stamps • Event Postcards (when available)

  4. Fair Rules All fair representatives (alumni included) are expected to adhere to the NACAC (National Association of College Admission Counseling) principles of good practice: • You must stand behind the table at all times. • You are not permitted to give away items such as a pennants, candy, etc. • You must stay for the duration of the fair. • Do not “wheel and deal” or “call out” to students to get them to your table.

  5. Breaking the Ice • A lot of students aren’t familiar with Kalamazoo College and may not ask very informed questions • Be prepared to ask students questions as they come to your table. Some icebreakers: • Are you looking at mostly small schools? • What subjects do you like in a high school? • What extracurricular activities are you involved in? • Sometimes only talking to a handful of prospective students is a good night

  6. Providing Information • Familiarize yourself with the Kalamazoo College Info Profile , included in the packet. • These fast facts and figures will be the most requested information at a college fair. • It is OK to say “I don’t know.” • Write down the student’s question on their information card. • Speak from your own experience, and be clear when you are stating an opinion. • Try to remain objective about the school.

  7. After the Fair • Make sure to include any notes on the Student Information Cards you received to indicate to us if further contact is needed. • Write postcards to those who fill out a contact card. • Use the Postage Paid Envelope (included in packet) to return the table cloth, table tents, and completed student information cards. • Check your email for the Evaluation Form.
