Regional Studies Programme (RSP) • A prestigious scholarship programme introduced by our Prime Minister in 2008 • Established in 5 schools – ACS (Independent) – RI, RGS, Victoria School, Cedar Girls Secondary School • Around 100 scholarships to be awarded per cohort across the five schools ACS (Independent) – A School of Choice budget presentation for 2004

RSP comprises 1. Malay Special Programme (MSP) 2. Malay Special Programme • Offered as a Third Language • Examinable yearly • Lessons conducted outside curriculum time in the school • Mondays for Year Ones (3 to 6 pm) – Every Week • No changing of dates since MSP teacher have to teach other levels on other days ACS (Independent) – A School of Choice budget presentation for 2004
Malay Special Programme • Scholars will take the GCE-O level MSP examination at the end of Year Four • Exam format: – Paper 1: Email and Essay writing in Malay (20 marks) – Paper 2: Grammar, Vocabulary, Comprehension passage, Cloze passage in Malay (30 marks) (Multiple-choice and open ended questions) – Paper 3: Oral Conversation and Listening Comprehension in Malay (50 marks) ACS (Independent) – A School of Choice budget presentation for 2004
Understanding Southeast Asia (USEA) • An enrichment module specially designed by the school • Key pedagogy: Collaborative Learning • Lessons conducted outside curriculum time • Wednesdays for Year Ones (3:15 to 5:15 pm), 12 sessions, from mid-February onwards • Assessment: Coursework and group presentations ACS (Independent) – A School of Choice budget presentation for 2004
RSP Scholarship • Scholarship allowance of $1,000 per annum • Annual school fees subsidy of $2,400 • Subsidised Enrichment Programmes including fieldtrips and seminars • Funding for overseas cultural immersion trips (maximum of $100 per day) ACS (Independent) – A School of Choice budget presentation for 2004
Eligibility for RSP • Year 1 Singapore citizens (PR and Foreigners not eligible) • Not taking Malay or Higher Malay as Mother Tongue (MT) • Those exempted from MT are eligible to apply • Attained PSLE Score of 240 points and above Will be taking Malay Special Programme as 3 rd language • (if accepted into RSP, student will be registered by the school to offer MSP) • Exhibit scholarly qualities including leadership and other personal attributes • Passed interview with panel of RSP teachers (more details will be informed to the successful applicants) ACS (Independent) – A School of Choice budget presentation for 2004
Year One RSP lessons conducted in 2018 • Playing angklung, traditional musical instrument • Playing traditional Malay games (5-stones, gasing, capteh, congkak, sepak takraw) • Cooking of traditional Nasi Goreng Kampung • Visits to Kampung Glam, Malay Heritage Centre, Hari Raya bazaar and Hari Raya celebration at MSP teacher’s home • Cultural day camp and MOE - organised seminar to learn more on Malay culture (combined with the other 4 RSP schools) ACS (Independent) – A School of Choice budget presentation for 2004
