What is a Parent Council? A Parent Council is a body which: • enables parents to meet, share ideas and feed back to the school, • gives parents a voice and enables them to inform the decision making process, • helps further develop a partnership between parents and school, • consults parents and advises the governing body of parents’ views.
What is a Parent Council? Key outcomes from established Parent Councils include: • Improvement in information sent to parents • Parents gain a greater understanding of school decision-making processes • Governors gain a greater understanding of views of parents • Increase in number and range of opportunities for parents to communicate with schools • Development/Improvement of area for parents on school website • Number of consultative meetings held involving parents • Wider range of parents involved in school life
Lime Tree Primary School Parent Council Terms of Reference - 1 Role • To provide input to the governors on specific agenda items in the upcoming Full Governors Meeting • To raise issues and give feedback on any items that they feel would contribute to the well being and education of the children at the school. Reporting • The Parent Council will report in to the Full Governors Body. Authority • The Parent Council does not have any delegated or inherited authority from the Governors or the School. Membership Membership of the Parent Council will comprise: ● 1 Full Parent Governor (where possible) ● 1 Staff Governor ● 2 Parents from the provision (one parent at each meeting) ● 1 Parent from each of the mainstream classes (co-representing the year group - so only one parent representative from each year in attendance at each meeting)
Lime Tree Primary School Parent Council Terms of Reference - 2 Chair • In the absence of the chairperson, the meeting will be chaired by the Teacher Governor. Quorum • The quorum for any Parent Council Meeting will be at least 1 Full Governor and 4 Parents. Meetings ● There will be a minimum of 3 meetings a year. ● Meetings should be held at least 2 weeks in advance of the Full Governors Body Meeting. ● All meetings must be minuted and the minutes circulated to the Full Governors Body within a week of the meeting. Skills • For the Governor, refer to the Governors TOR and Skills Matrix. • For Parents, they should be a parent of a child within a class at Lime Tree.
