Title: Using Chinese Traditional Crosstalk in Academic Development: the Case of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China Requested Session Type: Paper Session Track: Teaching and Learning Keywords: Crosstalk, Academic Development, Teaching & Learning Abstract: Teaching & Learning Crosstalk Program (TLCTP) originated in 2014 by CTLD of SJTU, which has been playing very important role in Academic Development on campus. The creation of TLCTP is tailor-made based on the survey. The theme and content is derived from the real teaching and learning environment and culture. With comic, ironical and exaggerated performance, as well as interactive discussion, TLCTP reveals teaching problems from students' view in vivid and effective way and leads faculty to reflecting and improving their teaching practice. In this presentation, we will introduce this creative program and share 4 years’ experience as well as show the audience feedbacks and a video of TLCTP performances.

  2. Proposal: Crosstalk, also called Chinese comic dialogue or Chinese talk show is a traditional Chinese art from Qing Dynasty and is listed in National Intangible Cultural Heritage by 2008. Through the artistic expression of talking (storytelling and tongue twister), imitating, joking and singing, crosstalk makes the audience be imperceptibly educated in the laughter. Teaching & Learning Crosstalk Program (TLCTP) originated in 2014 by Center for Teaching and Learning Development of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The creation of TLCTP is tailor-made based on the survey among teachers and students. The theme and content is derived from the real teaching and learning environment and culture in university. With comic, ironical and exaggerated performance accompanied by traditional Chinese instrument bamboo clappers, as well as interactive discussion, TLCTP reveals teaching problems from students' view in vivid and effective way and leads faculty to reflecting and improving their teaching practice. Through case study, we explore the different topics such as the Moocs ’ impact on the traditional teaching, the balance of teaching and research, how to be an excellent teacher, the teaching difficulties faced by new faculty and the interactive

  3. cooperation with teaching assistant. Through questionnaire feedback from audience, we calculate the degree of satisfaction. In conclusion, TLCTP has been playing very important role in Academic Development in Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
