Making texts accessible ● Locating physical texts ● Physically reading the texts in light of changes to orthography, printing, etc ● Understanding of the content and structure of the Zapotec language ● Contextualizing the history of the time, place, and people involved in their creation 10

Ticha project philosophy ● We locate, photograph, transcribe, and do linguistic analysis of Zapotec texts. ● Texts on Ticha are available at various stages of work, from page images, to fully translated and annotated. ● We hope that making these materials available to the wider scholarly and public audience results in increased research on these materials and in greater public awareness of Zapotec cultural heritage. 11
