Who am I? ▶ A father, husband, K-6 elementary principal, and freelance writer in Great Falls, Montana. ▶ He has taught most all grade levels K-6, and has been a K-12 principal of a rural school. As a 5th grade teacher in 2010, he won the Presidential Award for Elementary Math and Science Teaching (PAEMST). As a principal, his school won the 2012 Blue Ribbon Award. In ▶ 2018, he won the National Distinguished Principal Award (NDP). He blogs for Teacher.org routinely. He is the author of two ▶ guides, An Educator's Guide to Combat Bullying & Bully Prevention and Teacher Evaluation: A Transition Guide to Exemplary Performance . He has authored a children's picture book that will be released in ▶ October, 2018 titled, Principal Reads and Benjamin's Visit to the Office…Not the First!

SEL is part of SEL = Social Emotional Learning refers to a ▶ curriculum used to support students (sometimes MTSS & PBIS referred to as the hidden curriculum) ▶ MTSS = Multiple Tiers of Support System refers to… OR ▶ PBIS = Positive Behavior Intervention Supports ▶ refers to… ▶ MTSS = PBIS + SEL
PBIS Or Multiple Tiers of Support Tier 1 = Supports Designed for Most or All of Your Students ▶ ~80% of Your Students (0 or 1 behavior referrals) ▶ Tier 2 = Supports Designed for Some of Your Students ▶ ▶ ~15% of Your Students (2-5 behavior referrals) Tier 3 = Supports Designed for a Few of Individual Students ▶ ▶ ~5% of Your Students (6+ behavior referrals)
SMART Goal Setting In GFPS, we set goals that start from the Superintendent, then the ▶ Assistant Superintendent delineates out elementary focus, principals add building goals, and teachers goal set for their classrooms. This is all done on one document. Teachers can see how what ▶ they are doing with students everyday supports the district’s goals. ▶ Check out this form.
