Slide 01: Hello, Everyone. This is my FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT presentation. Slide 02: I chose the Chinese proverb, Coming events cast their shadows before them. Slide 03: My presentation is divided into four sections: planning, research, experiment and creation. The eight questions listed here will be answered in the four sections. Slide 04: Planning I choose: A series 4-5 large-scale paintings with 20 or so drawings and material experiments. This is my plan and sketch. Based on my understanding of the proverb, I chose a theme for my assignment: The Harbinger of The Doom. I plan that each painting is related to news of extreme weather that has occurred in the world in recent years. My intention is to convey a message through this series of paintings. We should pay attention to the extreme weather situation that have occurred on the world. These events may not happen in our country but they represent an warning. If we continue to ignore these warnings, May eventually lead to irreversible results. Pay attention to these warnings and think about what we can do. The next plan is to search for the styles and works of my favorite artists and then study their works. I also plan the progress of the work that needs to be done every week, and of course it is beyond the scheduled time I hope that the series of works I have completed in the end can be worth a few seconds for the audience to be able to think and try a little change. At the same time, I can improve my painting skills. I hope to try a variety of different painting methods and materials. Finally, I discussed my direction and thoughts with the teachers. After getting some suggestions, I entered the search stage. Slide 05: Research- Artists Among the artists recommended by the teachers and the artists I searched at YouTube and the art gallery, the works and styles of these six artists are my favorite.
J.M.W. Turner, English Romantic painter, printmaker and watercolorist. He is known for his expressive colourisations, imaginative landscapes and turbulent, often violent marine paintings. Per Kirkeby was a Danish painter. He is also a geologist. He draws a natural tension and his style is very abstract and colorful. I really love it. Sun Xun, is a artist in China, who works across many mediums including but not limited to acrylic, ink, pastel, traditional animation, and many forms of printmaking like woodcut. like his paintings with a strong sense of Chinese painting and his crazy creativity. Iris Scott, a finger painter, makes me feel very free. She is Using "vibrant colors and vivid imagery” to represent a variety of natural-world subjects. I am inspired by their style of painting and the variety of creative methods. Slide 06: Research- Pinterest I built a section on Pinterest to collect the painting styles and photographic photos of other artists I like, giving me more inspiration in the creations that follow. The links I put in the presentation are all interactive links that go directly to the site. Slide 07: Research- news Searched for all extreme weather events from 2018 to 2019, including the causes, and follow-up reports. Authoritative answers, etc. I chose the most shocking and empathetic news to be my creative background. Slide 08: Experiment I have tried various types of paper and size, and I have tried various types of materials such as Acrylic, gouache, watercolor, oil pastel, markers, ink, etc. There are also different brushes. I decided to use A1's composite board as a drawing board. I had painted on normal paper and canvas, so I wanted to try painting on a board and see the different effects and feelings. Another 20 experimental paintings, using the A3 Art Pad paper. The intention of this painting is to show the scene of the flooding engulfing the city. I hope to express more abstract, but I think it is not abstract enough, and I’m still exploring in the scale of abstract painting. The biggest problem I encountered was that I was not confident in painting and when I was in research, due to language barriers, I lost a lot of time and missed good information. But in the end it has been solved, it takes some patience and keep trying. Regarding the planned changes throughout the process, it should be that the actual operation takes much longer than planned. About what else is needed, I think if there are more time, would be great, because I also want to add some elements of digital drawings and photography.
