Positive vs Negative for the S2S Positive Negative • Inland Walkway/Cycleway partly on road from • Seafront/Off-Road Walkway/Cycleway from Merrion Gates to Blackrock (2.5 kms). Irishtown to Merrion Gates (3.75 kms) • Inland Cycleway on road from Blackrock to • Seafront Walkway from Blackrock to Seapoint Seapoint (1.0 kms). (1.0km). • Requires significant land purchase. • Viable (if less desirable for sections) route for total 6.5kms – Irishtown to Seapoint. • Possible duplication and waste of money. • Resolves the traffic problems at Merrion Gates. • Not a continuous off-road, traffic free, safe cycleway/walkway. • Opportunity to re-evaluate the constraints. • Completion of S2S project is not precluded. Michael Collins for S2S
Policy Decision 1: Accept the proposals as a significant step forward. 2: Express the hope that the required environmental assessments would demonstrate that the need to protect birds / habitats can be reconciled with the provision of (a) sustainable transport systems and (b) access to amenity for the community. 3: Work towards the provision of a fully coastal cycle / pedestrian route as the preferred option. Michael Collins for S2S
