  11. Middle school registration • The registration form you receive is a reference sheet. During registration, your child will be given a registration form to assist them in selecting their courses. • Course Guides outlining courses and their descriptions will be available online. • Parents and students should discuss options available and make decisions regarding course requests. • Registration will be completed on course request forms by students during their Advisory class. HAC will open for parents to review after February 17th. Any changes may be made until March 27 th .

Accelerated/Pre-AP/GT Classes • Accelerated/Pre-AP/GT classes are offered at the middle school to help students gain the “Edge” in college preparation by: • Getting a head start on college level work • Improving writing skills and problem-solving techniques • Developing study habits necessary for handling rigorous course work

  27. Advisory class • Advisory-mandatory full-year course required for each middle school student. • If a student is in AVID, their advisory components will be embedded in those classes. This allows those students to participate in the elective choices available to all 8 th graders.

  30. STAAR EOC Testing Requirements

  31. In 7 th OR 8 th grade all students are required to take a year of a Physical Education Course. It is recommended that you take your required PE course in 7 th grade. If you did not take a physical education/athletics course in 7 th grade, you are required to take one in 8 th grade. As a next step, you will need to select a combination of full year electives and/or semester electives to complete your course request.

  32. Finally, you will need to select at least 2 alternate choices for electives. You need to choose electives that you would be happy to have if your first choice isn’t possible. It is possible that these alternates COULD be the elective courses that you receive. Please note that if electives requiring applications are chosen, the application deadline of February 17th still applies. Please select at least 2 alternate electives. If no alternates are selected, they will be chosen for you!
