6 th Grade Course Requirements 7 Class Periods at KMS 4 Core Classes RELA— Reading /English/Language Arts Math Science Social Studies Students choose the level of each core class: On-Level or PreAP.
On-level Classes • Math, RELA, Science, and Social Studies • These core courses prepare students for college and post-secondary instruction using a variety of teaching strategies, student activities, and assessments. Course Planning Guide
Pre-AP Classes • Math, RELA, Science, and Social Studies • These advanced courses move at a faster pace, are more academically challenging, and require more independent learning than on-level courses. • PreAP Math covers 6th grade level and a portion of 7th grade. Students must take PreAP for Math to be eligible for Algebra in 8th grade.
6 th Grade Course Requirements 3 additional classes: PE/Dance— All Year 1 Physical education Fine Arts — All Year 2 electives from FA or AVID AVID— All Year
Physical Education • All 6 th Graders take one year of PE or Dance • 6 th Grade PE classes are separate from 7 th and 8 th grade PE • Dance can be counted as either PE or Fine Arts • PE uniform required
Fine Arts Electives Every 6 th Grader will take Fine Arts Year Long Electives (Both Semesters) • Band • Orchestra • Choir • Art • Theater Arts • Dance
Course selection • Every student will complete course request on the yellow course selection sheets.
Course selection • Yellow course selection sheets are due to your 5th grade teacher on Friday, Jan. 31st.
