Mailing to Senior Parents • Should receive by the middle of October • Will include the following: – Letter with important dates • It will ask you to verify the correct spelling of your senior’s name – used to order diploma covers and diplomas – there is a charge for reorders – Graduation Progress Sheets

  8. Mandatory Meetings & Graduation • Senior Meeting – May 27 @ 9:30am RHS Auditorium ***Date subject to change*** • Graduation Practice @ The Well – June 1@ 7:30 am • Graduation @ The Well – June 2 @ 9am • IF YOU MISS THE SENIOR MEETING & GRADUATION PRACTICE, YOU WILL NOT WALK AT GRADUATION!

Upcoming Senior Events • Greenville County College Fair – Sept. 16 5:30 PM-7:30 PM @ Greenville Convention Center • Senior Make-up Pictures – Sept. 23-25 More information is on RHS website • College Application Day @ RHS October 16 - more information soon! • Senior Graduation Supply – Senior Assembly: 11-1; 2 nd period; auditorium – Place Orders on 11-8 during lunch – Make-up orders on 12-5 during lunch

  10. ATTENDANCE • It’s their responsibility!  No more than 5 unexcused absences in a ½ semester course (example: Government)  No more than 10 unexcused absences in a year long course (example: English 4)  Do NOT rely on Seat Time Recovery!  Keep up with attendance through the Parent Portal!

  11. Class Dues & Debts • Dues – $50 – Used to pay for Prom, Senior breakfast, and Graduation • Payment made to Mrs. Armstrong in J116 by Spirit Week! • Failure to pay Dues & Debts – will result in you not participating in Prom and not walking at graduation!

Graduation Requirements • English – 4 units • Math – 4 units • Science – 3 units (1 with EOC – Biology) • Social Studies – 1 unit • US History – 1 unit • Government – ½ unit • Economics – ½ unit • World Language/Career Course – 1 unit • PE – 1 unit • Computer Technology – 1 unit • Electives – 7 units

  14. 4 Year College Requirements • 2 to 3 consecutive years of World Language • 1 Fine Arts • 3 Lab Sciences • 1 unit of Math beyond Algebra 2 (example: Algebra 3, Pre-Calculus)

  15. SC Technical College Requirements • Graduate with High School Diploma • Online application available • SAT/ACT is NOT mandatory • Entrance Test • Graduate with a 3.0 GPA or higher may be eligible for Lottery Assistance

  16. College Visits • May use up to 3 absences prior to the end of 3 rd Quarter • Absences MUST be pre-arranged through the Attendance Office • Absences DO COUNT against you! • Refer to Student Handbook for more information

Test Scores • SAT/ACT test scores WILL NOT be sent by RHS to colleges/universities • Institutions & NCAA Clearinghouse require that official scores be sent directly to the College/University by the Testing Service – This may be done at the time of registration for SAT/ACT – Scores may be requested after the test administration

  18. Scholarship Applications & Test Scores • Test scores WILL be sent with scholarship applications if requested by the student

Fee Waivers • Students may qualify for a fee wavier for SAT/ACT and college applications. – Students must qualify for Free or Reduced lunch (current lunch application must be on file.) – Fee Waivers for SAT/ACT may be obtained from your school counselor – SAT College fee waivers are available on line after registration of test

  20. College Applications • Majority will be done on-line • Request a copy of your transcript through Naviance. • Teacher recommendations should only be sent to those colleges that require them! • Watch Deadlines!!

  21. Application Checklist • Double check your application before submitting! – Look for typos – Areas not completed • Secondary School Report • Application Fee • Request your transcript

  22. Recommendation Letters • Teachers, Coaches, Employer, Youth Minister • Allow the recommender at least 2 weeks to complete the letter • Provide a copy of your resume • Provide mailing address, if applicable • Write a hand-written thank you note to the recommender!

General Eligibility Requirements for State Scholarships SC HOPE, LIFE & Palmetto Fellows Scholarship SC Need-based Grant Lottery Tuition Assistance US Citizen/Legal Permanent Resident* • SC Resident* • • No felony convictions • No second or subsequent alcohol/drug misdemeanors • Not in default of any state or federal loans • Enroll in a degree-seeking program at an eligible SC institution *this must be determined at the time of high school graduation.

State Scholarships & Residency: Basic Breakdown Students must have their immigration status verified through a federal process as either a US Citizen or legal permanent resident before they can be awarded any State scholarship. Students must be verified by the institution as a SC resident before they can be awarded any State scholarship. A student who is NOT verified as a US Citizen or legal permanent resident AND who is not verified as a SC resident at the time of their high school graduation cannot receive State scholarships at the time of initial enrollment or at any point in the future.

  29. SC HOPE Scholarship • 3.0 GPA upon graduation • Must attend an eligible SC 4 year institution. • No application process! Institution reviews final transcript • Up to $2,800 for 1 st academic year ONLY!

  30. LIFE Scholarship Eligibility at a 2-year institution • 3.0 Cumulative GPA (based on the SC UGP) upon high school graduation Eligibility at a 4-year institution • Earn 2 of the follow 3 requirements • 3.0 Cumulative GPA upon graduation • 1100/SAT or 24/ACT • Rank in the top 30% of the graduating class

LIFE Scholarship Terms of Eligibility • Up to 4 consecutive semesters of eligibility at a 2-year institution • Up to 8 consecutive semesters of eligibility at a 4-year institution Up to $5,000 per academic year • Not to exceed to the Cost of Attendance • Must attend an eligible SC institution

  32. Palmetto Fellows Scholarship Application Periods • Any eligible student will need to be a part of the Early or Late Award application process during their year of graduation • TWO opportunities to apply: – Early Award: December 15 th – Late Award: June 15 th **a student cannot apply or earn the PFS once they have graduated high school** • Counselor driven application process – The application and application materials must be submitted via the high school.

  33. PFS Eligibility Requirements • Rank in the top 6% at the end of the 10 th , 11 th or the 12 th grade year • Earn a 1200 on the SAT/27 on the ACT (through the June test administration of the graduating year) • Earn a 3.5 cumulative GPA (based on SC UGP) OR Alternate Criteria (without regard to rank) • Earn a 1400 on the SAT/32 on the ACT (through the June test administration of the graduating year) • Earn a 4.0 cumulative GPA (based on the SC UGP)

Important PFS Points The student MUST attend an eligible 4-year institution • the fall semester immediately following high school graduation – Enrolling in a 2-year institution during a fall or spring semester forfeits the student’s PFS eligibility – Not enrolling the fall semester upon high school graduation forfeits the student’s PFS eligibility A student who attends an out-of-state institution can • use any remaining terms of the PFS should they transfer to an eligible SC institution and meet the PFS renewal requirements In order for the student to receive scholarship funds • they MUST complete the DESIGNATION FORM – This is the SOLE responsibility of the student – The student is provided this form via email to the email listed on the electronic application
