Recommendation Report: A compilation of recommendations for the redesign of the Registrar’s Office website
Our Goal Using data drawn from both the student card sorts sessions and the advisor think-aloud protocols, our goal was to create a list of actionable recommendations to be used in the redesign of the Registrar’s website. To accomplish this, we’ve assembled: ● Alternative drop-down menu layout ● Statistics representing the difficulty of specific tasks ● Possible solutions to frequently encountered problems

TAP Executive Summary / Presentation Preview We would like to highlight four areas of interest recurred most often in participant feedback: ● Positives ● Navigation/ Ease of Access ● Language ● Content/ Layout
Task Difficulty Statistics Most Difficult Tasks: 1 6 Extremely Easy Extremely Difficult Task 2: Taking Coursework ● Elsewhere ● Task 4: Registering to Audit ● Task 6: Locating G.I. Bill Information ● Task 8: Requesting Closed Course ● Task 10: Locating TCEL
Positives ● Once located, participants found the All participants were able to easily find the ● information on the U.S. Veterans page Academic Calendar and information to be very helpful. relating to enrollment verification.
Navigation / Ease of Access The appropriate web page for TCEL should be listed under Information on how to request a closed course should ● ● the “Current Students” and “Faculty” lists. be on it’s own page, separate from “Waitlist”. Keep “Closed Course” under “Waitlist” as well. ○ A link for “Audit” should be available under the “Current ● Students” list. Web page for veterans wishing to use their G.I. benefits ● Audit form should be available on the website. should be made available under “Current Students” ○ and/or potentially “Prospective Students”.
Language ● Use language targeted towards the key audience. In this case, the audience would be students who frequently turn to Registrar faculty or advisors with questions. ○ Audit → Audit a Class vs. Audit a Degree TCEL → Transferring Credits OR Take a Course Elsewhere ○ Aerospace Studies—Biochemistry → A—B ○
Content Use an Accordion Function on the Registration Errors page. ● ● List instructions on how to fill out a form for Auditing a Class, and also give users access to the form on the Auditing Policies page and the Student Forms page. Move the brief instructions to the top of the page. ● Some of the registration coordinators listed to contact are no longer here at Clemson University.
Of all the usability problems participants encountered, our collected data suggests the following areas should be prioritized during the redesign process: ● Navigation to high-traffic web pages, such as TCEL, needs to be as quick as possible. ● Labeling and language should cater to students’ mental models. ● Content should be reorganized within individual web pages.
