NIKA Foundation
It all started three years ago, in a small town of Zelenograd, Russia, when Nika Foundation was created to support the animal shelter.
In 2013, after merging with “ Santa ” shelter which was severely underfunded, the number of animals increased considerably. Today NIKA is home for about 150 dogs and 50 cats.
NIKA Foundation provides a variety of services for the abandoned animals. Also, we are striving to create special environment for the stray animals that have been rescued after an injury or were born disabled.

We’re lucky to have an extraordinary team of volunteers who have been helping the animals for many years. They do it because they CARE. Our animals are also supervised by a group of veterinarians, who keep an eye on the animals’ health.
Our main goal is to encourage adoption of the animals! Each of our animals has its own story, often with a lot of suffering in the past, but all of the animals desire one thing the most - to find a welcoming home and a loving family.
In today’s Russia – a large country with a lot of unresolved issues – animals do not receive much attention. NIKA Foundation is a non-profit organization that is not supported by Federal funding. We exist only due to donations of those who care.
Most of our funds are collected through private donations via Internet. We are actively participating in social networks and have a group of followers on Facebook and Vkontakte.com.
Our shelter is a popular school trip destination. Children who come to visit us love to spoil our animals with yummy treats and to take them for long walks.
Cat House Unlike the dogs, our cats reside in the heated premises, where two cats usually share a room.
Dog House All our dogs are kept in stalls. Each of the stalls has a heat- proof dog house. For the animals that cannot be kept outside, we arrange for temporary stays with foster families.
House for disabled animals Our special-needs animals and animals that require after-surgery care live in a separate little house which is split into four separate stalls. The house is equipped with a minimum of essentials required for the animals’ comfort.
Each year we participate in the Seasons of Life Festival where we bring our animals in hope of finding families that would adopt them.
In NIKA Animal Shelter, you can find a loving pet for your family. If for some reason you cannot afford to take an animal for adoption, you would be able take it under foster care.
We also have a DREAM! A dream that gradually is turning into a reality….
In 2014 we acquired 1.85 hectares (4.6 acres) of land, 30 km away from Moscow. On this land we are planning to build the very first Animal Help Center in Russia. It will be called “Wet Nose”.
One of the main advantages of the new Center will be its extensive infrastructure with heated stalls that would help our animals to withstand severe Russian winter temperatures. We also plan to turn our Center into a major attraction for the local communities, and especially for children.
WET NOSE Center will accommodate up to 500 animals at a time. Special care will be given to the animals that felt victims to the cruelty of humans.
Our Center will be a first center of the kind in the Russian Federation – quite a bold task to take on. However, we strongly believe that with all of your help we will be able to turn our big dream into reality!
Please join us! Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!
