What is Naviance? • College and career readiness software that partners with high schools and other K – 12 institutions to provide students with college planning and career assessment tools. • Used by over 8,000 schools across the U.S. • Documents can be sent to 4,121 electronic destinations, including: • 520 members of the Common Application • 8 Ivy League Institutions • 97 HBCU • 28 Jesuit Colleges • 215 U.S. Catholic Colleges

  3. Naviance Functionality • Two main components: C OLLEGE AND C AREER S UBMISSION OF SUPPLEMENTAL P LANNING APPLICATION MATERIALS

Logging onto Naviance • The link is posted on the STEM Counseling website under the “ Naviance ” and “College and Career Planning” tabs • The direct link is succeed.naviance.com/stem ​ • The username is the student’s school ID # and the password is their birthdate (Example: 10/24/1993. For single-digit birth month and/or date, do not use 0 -- i.e. 9/9/1993)

  5. College and Career Preparation • Naviance provides several tools to help students explore post- secondary opportunities: • SuperMatch College Search • Scattergrams (district) • College Compare • Personality Type • Career Interest Profiler • Strengths Explorer • Resume Builder • Cluster Finder • Roadtrip Nation (over 3,000 video interviews of people who have built their lives around their interests including engineers, scientists, documentarians, White House correspondents, filmmakers, chefs, musicians, plastic surgeons – you name it!)

  6. SuperMatch College Search • Use over 20 search criteria to find what schools are best for you, including: • Selectivity • Location • Academic Programs (not rankings) • Tuition • Standardized Test Scores • Greek Life • Special Services • Religious/Political Affiliation • Diversity • Sports • 4,652 schools available

Scattergrams • Scattergrams allow you to see where you fall with regard to likelihood of admission based on your GPA and SAT score in comparison to DASD applicants in Sample Student: (GPA: 4.3528, SAT: 2125) Sample Student (GPA=4.3625, SAT=2124) years past. • You will find the link for Scattergrams under the Colleges tab.

Submission of Supplemental Materials • All the things colleges require as part of the application – just not the application itself! • Academic transcripts • Midyear reports • Final transcripts • Letters of Recommendation (sent by teachers) • Common App ED Agreements • Fee Waivers • School Profile • Common App School Report

  10. Applications & Standardized Test Scores • The Counseling Dept does not submit college applications, SAT scores, or ACT scores

  13. Requesting Transcripts • Students must pick up the pink transcript request form from Mrs. Zach in the Counseling Office. • If you are under 18, your parent needs to sign the release on the backside of the form.

The Class of 2014 • WE GRADUATED OUR FIRST GROUP OF STUDENTS! • All 174 chose to pursue post- secondary education. • The Class of 2014 was accepted to 181 different institutions across 25 states . • Students submitted an average of 7 applications . • We processed transcripts for 1,352 applications !

What Have We Done to Prepare Our Students? • February: Junior College Night for parents and students. • March-May: Offer individual Junior Meetings for students and parents starting in March. • May: College Admissions and Naviance Presentation in 11 th grade English classes. • Fall of Sr Yr: Up-to-date scholarship page will be available for students on Naviance Created a comprehensive Naviance training guide for our students. Available on STEM website and Naviance. Up to date Counseling webpage on our STEM website with several resources, including scholarship, college essays, financial aid, important timelines, etc.
