WHAT IS PSSR? • PSSR stands for ‘Pressure System Safety Regulation’ and applies to all coffee machines which contain a steam pressure boiler 18
WHAT DOES PSSR MEAN FOR YOU? • Only competently trained engineers should work on the equipment, due to the fact the machine is working under live steam pressure and high temperatures • It is the owner of the machines responsibility to make sure the pressure tests are carried out on a repeating 14 month basis following installation • If you have the machine out with a customer (free on loan, rental etc) it is your responsibility to arrange the inspection • If the customer purchases the machine it is then their responsibility to make sure an inspection is carried out • However as the supplier and service provider you do have a duty of care to inform the customer about their responsibilities 19
WHAT DOES PSSR MEAN FOR YOU? • In most cases the insurance provider for the site should be able to give you advice on arranging an inspection • There are independent companies offering this service ranging from localised competent engineers through to keen insurance companies such as Allianz or Zurich • For more information on this regulation please refer to the HSE Safety of Pressure Systems approved code of practice. • http://www.hse.gov.uk/pUbns/priced/l122.pdf 20
