  4. Overview of CASN Accreditation Process • CASN’s mission is to lead nursing education and nursing scholarship in support of healthier Canadians. • In order to obtain Accreditation, Schools of Nursing undergo a review of both the Educational Unit and the Nursing Education Program. • Each is assessed against a separate set of predetermined standards of excellence, and receives a separate Accreditation Decision.

  5. CASN Reviewers • Reviewers are faculty members of member institutions, or clinical educators referred by member Schools. 6. CASN Accreditation Bureau • The CASN Accreditation Bureau makes decisions regarding the Accreditation Status and Terms of Schools of Nursing.

  7. Educational Unit Review • The Educational Unit Standards relate to the administrative structures, processes, and the human and material resources that support the program. • If a School offers a nursing education program at multiple sites, than both sites (educational units) must be reviewed independently. • Both U of C and MHC complete the Educational Unit Review

  8. Nursing Education Program Review • The Nursing Education Program Standards are focused on the curriculum and its evaluation. • In the case of a Nursing Education Program delivered collaboratively, the Educational Unit of each of the partner institutions will be assessed independently and receive its own Accreditation Decision whereas the Nursing Education Program will be reviewed collectively and will obtain a single Accreditation Decision. • Only U of C completes the Nursing Education Program Review
