  2. “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” - Martin Luther King Jr.

  3. Police Injustice ● Police injustice affects people of color at alarmingly disproportionate rates. ● Instead of feeling served and protected by police officers, young people, in particular youth of color, must keep a watchful eye on those are supposed to keep them safe

  4. Factory School System Our factory system of education encourages youth to be consumers rather than social actors , young people are forced to accept a prescribed set of knowledge and skills . Where is the party in opposition to our established system of inherent racism ? Where is the humanity, care, and justice for the individuals who spend their lives rotting away in federal and state penitentiaries?

  5. Changing the System We can no longer afford to have police, courts, and schools seemingly rooting against the success and achievement of inner city kids. It is imperative that we restructure and fix this discriminatory societal dynamic. Well, how can we go about achieving these ends?

  6. “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.” - Malcolm X

  7. Our Mission Provide youth groups with the resources to develop skills in critical literacy , as well as, technical and theoretical media training to create empowered, highly motivated, free thinkers inspired to tackle challenges affecting their communities .

  8. Representation of Self It is critical that we establish a program that empowers marginalized youth to find methods to represent themselves and speak about issues in their lives so they can discover their previously unrealized creative potential .

  9. Youth Media Action Coalition (YMAC) Comprehensive after-school educational programming seeking to provide a creative outlet for muted voices in our school system. Empowering at risk youth, instilling them with the confidence and technical know-how to express themselves effectively in this new media age.

  10. Develop Critical Literacy A critical literacy empowers low-income, urban teenagers to produce their own media that publicly voices their ideas and concerns about the most important issues in their lives.

  11. Youth Media Action Coalition (YMAC) Unify youth of different backgrounds, to celebrate their identities and develop understanding for their differences. Youth learn to represent themselves using media, and grapple with the following issues that face their communities: ● sexuality, race, gender ● drug addiction ● gang violence ● incarceration ● police relations

  12. “Have faith in the power of collective action and document the efforts of many different people working toward common goals. Enfranchisement is the primary goal . The most significant feature of television production is its capacity to create opportunities for the formation of new audiences and communities.” - Gregg Bordowitz

  13. Creative Manifestations By building a strong media vocabulary, paired with hands on training, the Youth Media Action Coalition hopes to promote: ● Participatory Journalism/Documentation ● Personal Narrative ● Video Advocacy

  14. The Hunted and the Hated

  15. Youth Media Action Coalition Efficacy Cultivate creativity and free thinking within our youth. Call attention to instances of injustice, and the struggle of urban youth of color.
