Session Examinations  Carried out during examination sessions  Summer Examination Session 2020: 3 – 28 August 2020 (Please note: Examinations may take place on Saturdays as well)  A separate examination-registration is required through myStudies  registration period: 2 – 15 March 2020  Session examinations are planned by the Examinations Office  Examination dates will be published in myStudies in three steps: 1. Schedule of written exams (approx. at the beginning of May 2020) 2. Schedule of oral exams (only dates, no specific time designation) (approx. by mid-June 2020) 3. Personal examination schedule (incl. definite time designations) (shortly before the beginning of the examination session) ETH Examinations Office | 3/9/2020 | 4

End-of-Semester Examinations  Carried out during the examination phase at the end of the semester  End-of-semester exam phase – Spring Semester 2020: 18 May – 12 June 2020 (Please note: Due to the current situation with the Corona Virus, it could be possible that this examination phase will have to be postponed to a later time, such as end of June or early July.)  A separate examination-registration is required through myStudies  registration period: 2 – 15 March 2020  End-of-semester examinations are planned by the lecturers resp. by the department responsible for the course unit.  For End-of-semester examinations there will be no examination schedule in myStudies  Ask the lecturer in charge about the exact examination date ETH Examinations Office | 3/9/2020 | 5

Semester Performances (graded/ungraded)  Mostly integrated performance assessments during the semester (i.e. laboratory work, seminars,…)  May be graded or ungraded (pass / fail)  No separate examination registration required, however students must enroll in the respective course unit. Preponement of Exams / Distance Exams (General information)  Information given to you prior to your stay at the ETH Zurich: The session examinations at ETH Zurich are held during the semester break. Exchange and visiting students must respect the official examination dates . This means that you should plan your exchange period to ensure your presence at ETH Zurich during the examination session. Preponement of Exams / Distance Exams (General information)  End-of-Semester Examination Phase 18 May – 12 June 2020  Examination Session Summer 2020 3 – 28 August 2020  Only in well founded (study-specific) cases can examinations be  Taken before the examination phase / examination session (preponement)  Taken as distance examinations (same time, different location)  Such individual arrangements are always (!) subject to permit If an examination is undertaken early without approval, its result is invalid and  will be annulled ETH Examinations Office | 3/9/2020 | 15

  16. Preponement of Exams / Distance Exams (Prerequisites)  You must be matriculated as an exchange student at the ETH Zurich  Visiting students may not make individual arrangements! The semester in question must be your last semester at the ETH Zurich   Lecturers must (!) agree to the organization of individual arrangements ETH Examinations Office | 3/9/2020 | 16

Preponement of Exams / Distance Exams (Prerequisites)  Shifting examinations is only granted in exceptional, study-related cases  Common valid reasons: Start date of home university  Must be before or no later than one  Start of a BSc-, MSc- or PhD-Thesis week after the examination(s) in  Start of a research project question  Start of a mandatory internship  Some reasons why a request will not be granted :  Vacation  Housing Contract expires  Job offer  Voluntary internship …   All grounds upon which your request is based must be substantiated (official documents, written confirmations,…) ETH Examinations Office | 3/9/2020 | 17

Preponement (as an oral examination)  Option for oral session and end-of-semester examinations: 1. Preponement (as an oral examination) – but not as distance examinations ETH Examinations Office | 3/9/2020 | 18

Preponement of Exams / Distance Exams (Procedure)  You need the approval of all lecturers involved  In case of distance exams your request has to contain a written confirmation from the lecturer In case of a preponement you need to fix a new exam date (time, location) with the lecturer   As of Monday, 16 March 2020 , the function in myStudies to make an official request will be available  Please note: Requests for distance session exams will have to wait until the official exam schedule for written session exams will be published (approx. at the beginning of May 2020)  You will have time to submit your request until approx. 11 May 2020  Requests which are submitted late will not be considered, unless there is a well-founded reason for the delay.  Please register in any case for all examinations , including the ones you intend to reschedule to an earlier date or that you want to take as distance examinations.   20. Distance Exams (Additional Procedure)  Distance examinations are suited to written examinations only  Date and time stay the same but the location of the exam changes (usually to your home university)  In case of online-exams please check with the lecturer, whether a distance exam is possible (on paper)  Once you receive official permission to take an examination as a distance exam you will have to  Fill out and hand in a PDF-Form containing  A confirmation of your home university (incl. information on the person proctoring the exam)  A confirmation of the lecturer  A written confirmation from your part  It could be necessary to shift the starting time of a distance exam to regular office hours (due to time difference) – with approval of the lecturer (!) only  This can be requested in the initial request (myStudies)  If necessary it can also be requested later via above mentioned PDF-Form ETH Examinations Office | 3/9/2020 | 20

  21. Preponement of Exams / Distance Exams (Additional Information)  Oral session examinations may be shifted within (!) the examination session if both, the lecturer and the student in question, agree to a new date.  This might be an alternative to preponing the examination  Ask the lecturer in question about possible dates for the oral exam during the session  It is not possible for exchange and visiting students to retake a failed examination once they have left the ETH.   myStudies ETH Examinations Office | 3/9/2020 | 21
