November 1, 2018 EARLY COLLEGE CREDIT • DUAL CREDIT • Organized program with signed agreements between the school districts and Elgin Community College – students take college courses at ECC and earn both high school and college credit. Credit is earned while in high school. • ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) • High school students enroll in College Board’s Advance Placement courses and earn a qualifying score on the AP exam. Official scores must be sent to the college. Credit is awarded after matriculation to college. • DUAL ENROLLMENT • Qualified, individual high school students take college courses on their own – for college credit only (high school credit may or may not be awarded). Credit is earned while in high school.

They are able to adjust study habits to college work before they have to deal with the total college experience • Saves students and parents money • Students can complete entry-level general education, elective, or career and technical courses • Significantly lower costs than they would experience at four-year public or private institution of higher education

November 1, 2018 DUAL CREDIT: PART-TIME OPTIONS GENERAL EDUCATION Course Title Course ID (#) General Education Requirement – These courses fulfill a general Course Title Course ID education core requirement. November 1, 2018 DUAL CREDIT: PART-TIME OPTION JUNIOR AND SENIOR ENROLLMENT ◦ Students are enrolled in 1-2 courses each semester ◦ Students choose between general education and CTE courses ◦ Courses are limited and have been pre-selected by ECC and school district ◦ All classes are scheduled in the afternoon at ECC’s main campus ◦ Courses are aligned to an Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, or CTE degree ◦ Certain CTE programs may require additional expenses (i.e. BNA) ◦ Courses may fulfill high school graduation requirements ◦ Students will be able to continue their participation in high school activities and clubs* ◦ Students are welcome to join clubs & organizations at ECC *High school district might have additional policies/requirements

November 1, 2018 DUAL CREDIT: FULL-TIME OPTION SENIOR ENROLLMENT ◦ Students are enrolled in 4-5 general education courses each semester ◦ Students can earn a total of 30+ transferable credits ◦ Courses are limited and have been pre-selected by ECC and school district ◦ All classes are scheduled at ECC’s main campus ◦ Students are fully integrated into the college atmosphere ◦ Students meet with ECC’s academic advising department ◦ Courses are aligned to an Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, or CTE degree ◦ All high school graduation requirements will be completed* ◦ Students will be able to continue their participation in high school activities and clubs* ◦ Students are welcome to join clubs & organizations at ECC *High school district might have additional policies/requirements

November 1, 2018 DUAL CREDIT: FULL-TIME OPTION JUNIOR ENROLLMENT ◦ Students are enrolled in 4-5 general education courses each semester. 1-2 courses may be needed in the summer between junior and senior year ◦ Students can earn a total of 30+ transferable credits each year ◦ All classes are scheduled at ECC’s main campus ◦ Students are fully integrated into the college atmosphere ◦ Students meet with ECC’s academic advising department each semester ◦ Courses are aligned to an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science ◦ All high school graduation requirements will be completed* ◦ Students will be able to continue their participation in high school activities and clubs* ◦ Students are welcome to join clubs & organizations at ECC *High school district might have additional policies/requirements

November 1, 2018 DUAL CREDIT: FULL-TIME OPTION JUNIOR ENROLLMENT – FIRE SCIENCE AND SAFETY ◦ Students are enrolled in 4-5 courses each semester over the course of 2 years ◦ 1-2 summer courses between junior and senior year are required ◦ Students will complete the Associate of Applied Science in Fire Science and Safety degree ◦ Majority of courses will be scheduled at ECC’s Center for Emergency Services (Burlington, IL) ◦ Students follow a prescribed academic plan, includes both FSS and general education courses ◦ FSS 215-EMT Basic course prepares students for the IDPH EMT-Basic exam. ◦ All high school graduation requirements will be completed* ◦ Students will be able to continue their participation in high school activities and clubs* *High school district might have additional policies/requirements

November 1, 2018 DUAL CREDIT: FULL-TIME OPTION THINGS TO CONSIDER… ◦ Students will need to commit to an 8 a.m.-3:15 p.m. school day ◦ Students will complete a rigorous college curriculum ◦ Student Expectations and Responsibilities (p. 4) ◦ Academic Progress ◦ Student Academic Records ◦ Attendance Policy ◦ ECC’s academic calendar is different from high school calendar. ◦ The grades will result in a permanent college transcript ◦ Students must adhere to all college policies and procedures (i.e. Code of Conduct) ◦ Students are required to work closely with their high school counselor and ECC staff ◦ Academic Plans will be unique to student’s intended major and institution
