WHAT IS DUAL CREDIT • DUAL CREDIT COURSES ARE THOSE COURSES TAKEN FOR COLLEGE CREDIT AND HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT, CONCURRENTLY. • AT KIMBERLY HIGH SCHOOL; • ON CSI'S CAMPUS; • ONLINE THROUGH IDLA (IDAHO DIGITAL LEARNING); • OTHER COLLEGES ALSO OFFER CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT ONLINE.
Dual credit courses are typically taken in the junior and senior year; WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO Students must have at least a 2.5 cumulative gpa (some courses TAKE DUAL require a 3.0); CREDIT Many courses have pre-requisites, in example, certain courses, certain test scores, etc.- students must meet them before enrollment.
• COURSES ARE REQUESTED THE SEMESTER BEFORE THEY ARE TAKEN; • IF THE COURSE IS TO BE TAKEN AT KHS, TEACHERS WILL WORK WITH THE COUNSELING DEPARTMENT TO REGISTER STUDENTS; • IF THE COURSE WILL BE TAKEN THROUGH IDLA, THE STUDENT NEEDS TO REQUEST THE WHEN DO COURSE A SEMESTER BEFORE THEY ARE TAKEN; STUDENTS • IF THE COURSE WILL BE TAKEN AT CSI, THE STUDENT NEEDS TO REQUEST SEMINAR PERIODS IN THEIR HIGH SCHOOL SCHEDULE THE SEMESTER BEFORE THEY ARE REGISTER FOR TAKEN. THE STUDENT ALSO NEEDS TO WORK WITH THE CSI TRANSITION COORDINATOR TO CHOOSE THE TIME THE COURSE(S) WILL BE TAKEN. DUAL CREDIT • IF THE STUDENT ENROLLS IN A COURSE AT CSI, HE OR SHE MUST GIVE ALL COURSE COURSES? INFORMATION TO THE OFFICE SO IT CAN BE RECORDED IN POWERSCHOOL. • YEAR-LONG COURSES TAKEN AT KHS WILL BE REGISTERED FOR IN SEMESTER 2, HOWEVER, THE STUDENT NEEDS TO BE ENROLLED IN THE DUAL CREDIT SECTION ALL YEAR.
HOW DO I REGISTER FOR DUAL CREDIT? • YOU MUST APPLY TO BE A DUAL CREDIT STUDENT! • ONCE APPROVED AS A DUAL CREDIT STUDENT,YOU WILL LOG INTO THE COLLEGE PORTAL AND ADD THE COURSE AND SECTION YOU WISH TO TAKE. • IF THE COURSE IS TO BE TAKEN AT CSI, YOU MUST COMPLETE AN ADD/DROP FORM TO BE TURNED IN TO CSI (KHS DOES NOT DO THIS FOR YOU!). • IF THE COURSE IS TO BE TAKEN THROUGH IDLA, MISS ROGERS WILL HELPYOU ENROLL IN THE COURSE.
HOW MUCH ARE THE COURSES? • ADVANCED OPPORTUNITIES PAYS FOR DUAL CREDIT COURSES • IF A STUDENT FAILS A COURSE THAT HAS BEEN PAID FOR BY ADVANCED OPPORTUNITY FUNDING, THE FUNDSMUST BE REIMBURSED TO THE SCHOOLBEFORE YOU CAN REGISTER FOR ANOTHER COURSE. • ANY COURSES THAT USE ADVANCED OPPORTUNITY FUNDS MUST APPEARON THE HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT. • IF THE STUDENT IS PLANNING ON TAKING COURSES ON CSI'S CAMPUS, ADVANCED OPPORTUNITY FUNDS PAY FOR $75 PER CREDIT AND THE STUDENT MUST PAY THE BALANCE OUT-OF-POCKET. FUNDS NEEDS TO BE PAID TO CSI BY THE TUITION DEADLINE. (TYPICALLY THE 1ST FRIDAYOF THE OPENING WEEK OF CLASSES.)

WHAT IS A GEM CERTIFICATE • EARNING A GEM CERTIFICATE IS DONE BY A STUDENT EARNING THEIR GENERAL EDUCATION CREDITS REQUIRED FOR MOST DEGREES. • 36 CREDITS REQUIRED IN SPECIFIC AREAS AND WITH SPECIFICREQUIREMENTS. • ACCEPTED AT ALL IDAHO PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION. • KHS OFFERS 50 CREDITS THAT CAN BE USED TO MEET THE CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS IN VARIOUS AREAS, HOWEVER, STUDENTS MUST GO TO CAMPUS FOR ENGLISH 102, ONE SCIENCE COURSE AND A GENERAL ED COURSE (THESE MAY BE OFFERED ONLINE, AS WELL).
