Why we started: K-State 2025. http://www.k-state.edu/2025 President set goals for social media use. Need for centralized guidelines. wcet.wiche.edu 15
How we started: Considered work previously done by large university committee. Researched other university and business policies. Incorporated input from experienced DCM staff . wcet.wiche.edu
Decisions we made: General rather than specific. Chose “Guidelines” for the title. Intentional in tone. Requested centralized access to accounts. wcet.wiche.edu
http://www.k-state.edu/socialmedia/bestpractices.html wcet.wiche.edu 18
Guidelines include: One Kansas State University voice. Before you begin. Best practices for social media. wcet.wiche.edu
What we learned: Do it sooner rather than later. Support of administration is important. Create, post, refine. Continual process. wcet.wiche.edu
What is next: Considering another revision. Rename as “Policy”. Requiring application to our office to start new accounts. Requiring administrative access to all accounts. Consulting university attorneys as needed. wcet.wiche.edu
