  3. Tips for Preventing Identity Theft  Make sure you guard your personal information : • Do NOT carry your social security card in your wallet. • Shred financial documents and paperwork • Do NOT use obvious passwords – birth date, mother’s maiden name, last four of social security

  4. Tips for Preventing Identity Theft • Don’t give out personal information on the phone, through the mail or over the internet unless you know who you are dealing with. • Keep your personal information in a secure place. • Do NOT click on links sent in unsolicited emails.

Tips for Detecting Identity Theft Be alert to signs that require immediate attention: • Bills that do not arrive as expected • Unexpected credit cards/account statements • Denials of credit for no reason • Call or letters about purchases you didn’t make • Charges on your financial statements that you don’t recognize .
