Components Supporting the Open Data Exploitation Andrea Maurino University of Milano Bicocca maurino@disco.unimib.it The COMSODE project has received funding from the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Union in the grant agreement number 611358.

Project Basic Facts • FP7 collaborative project: CALL FP7-ICT-2013-SME- DCA • Started October 1st 2013, planned for 24 months • Consortium: IT / SK / CZ / NL • Associated partners and User Board members invited from more than 10 countries
Project Objectives 1) Create and prove an Open Data publication platform called Open-Data-Node (open source) 2) Implement Advanced Search Toolbox 3) Propose methodologies for public bodies allowing quality publication of Open Data 4) Support the release of new datasets in several project pilots and use cases 5) Exploit project results for business of SMEs and new demand-driven projects (also in H2020)
Business Process Scheme Interoperability Transparency ODN Interoperability LINK ODN SEARCH ODN Publish EXCHANGE INTEGRATE Discover ODN Reuse Use/buy Develop Use/buy ODN: Open Data Node
User Engagement Strategy • Liaise with COMSODE Users: – Publishers of Open Data – Application developers – Citizens/ NGOs • Consult with User Board: – Articulates requirements – Shapes the development in key points of workplan – Helps to exploit project results
The role of LOD • Two are the way in which LOD are considered in the COMSODE project – As dataset to be published – As way to support the search and on the fly integration among different ODNs
Search and integration • The problem: • A lot of open data portals • A lot of data sets for each portal • Not all datasets are/will be exposed as LOD – Good/bad idea (?) • How to search/discovery useful information?
A scenario • «Buona la pasta» team develop a game for android called Politic Mesh based the traditional game of «gioco della torre» – Two politicians, users must throw the worst one – A ranking of politicians is build based the elo rating system • Where the team find data?
A possible solution • In ODN each dataset includes a set of metadata describing information about the dataset – Licence, quality related information, semantics of attributes…. • Such information will be published as LOD – Using SKOS, FOAF, datacube and DCAT vocabolary
A possible solution • A pay-as-you-go approach will be used to cluster dataset according to user requests • Note: – We do not want to integrate existing datasets – We want to support the discovery of relevant datasets in the ODN network
