What is World School Milk Day? • Countries from across the world celebrate the health benefits of having milk at school • World School Milk Day is celebrated on the last Wednesday of September every year! • About 140 million children from around the world have milk at school • 28 th September 2016 is the 17 th World School Milk Day!

The history of milk • Milk has been part of the human diet for over 11,000 years! • It’s thought that cows have been farmed since 8000 BC in some parts of the world • Bits of milk fat have been found on old pottery that was dug up in Britain dating back to 4000 BC • Pasteurisation, a process where milk is heated to kill harmful bacteria, was introduced in 1894 making milk safer to drink • Milk has been provided in British schools in since 1946!
