Research Animal Facility The University of Cape Town's Research Animal Facility (RAF) • provides a platform for integrative, interdisciplinary research. The UCT-RAF supports broad research fields, including • human and animal infectious diseases prevalent in Africa (e.g. TB, HIV, malaria, schistosomiasis, trypanosomiasis, leishmaniasis, salmonellosis, hookworm, fungi); drug and vaccine development (e.g. TB, HIV, malaria);pharmacology (efficacy & safety, pharmacokinetics/dynamics, drug metabolism); inherited & acquired conditions (e.g. cardiovascular disease, cancer, asthma, Crohn’s disease, addiction, depression); basic research (e.g. neurophysiology, developmental biology) and capacity development (i.e. advanced training courses). • University of Cape Town Faculty of Health Sciences

Confocal Core Research Facility The Confocal and Light Microscope Imaging Facility is a • core advanced light microscope facility at UCT, established in 2007. The Facility recently acquired the new state-of-the-art, • multi-functional Carl Zeiss 880 LSM confocal with Fast Airyscan technology and the Elyra S1 super-resolution microscope. It offers UCT and other local researchers access to super • and near-super resolution, real-time live cell and tissue imaging including a multitude of quantitative imaging and analysis techniques.
