Background • Agreement on a second holistic assessment, by 2016, at the 2013 HELCOM Ministerial Meeting, including to: – develop regional assessments so that they can be used by CPs in assessments of marine and coastal waters and for EU MSFD reporting – further develop, test and apply HELCOM assessment tools – develop operational assessments of pressures and update the Baltic Sea Impact Index. – include economic and social analysis of the use of the Baltic Sea and of the cost of degradation of the marine environment.   2. Status of assessment tools • HEAT (eutrophication): Current version 3.0. Will be further developed in EUTRO-OPER. • CHASE (hazardous substances): Was further developed in project HARMONY. • BEAT (biodiversity): Is further developed in EU-project DEVOTES. • BSPI and BSII (Baltic Sea Pressure and Impact Index): Were further developed in project HARMONY. • HOLAS (integrated assessment): Has not been further developed since last the holistic assessment Name 4/10/2014 Surname 2
