  1. ARAN BACKFILL SYSTEM SOLUTIONS Sept 2012

  2. ARAN • Brisbane Australia head office • Established in Malaysia & Canada • Developer of construction & mining projects – broad range of experience • Partner & Alliance member in major projects • Continuous innovation and design

  3. Global Experience • Projects Delivered + 200 Complete Mixing System + 30 Mine Backfill Projects • Africa • Asia • Europe • Australia • North America • South America

  4. Aran Through Mixing Mobile Modular

  5. Modular System •40 ft Shipping Contain Dimension Modules •T ransported as Shipping Containers •Rapid Assembly

  6. Accurate Binder Feeder Aran SiloFeedIII • Adjustable side seals compensate for metering belt wear. • New deep metering cleats reduce belt speed & increase feeder life. • Very accurate dimensional control of case & mechanical components. • Metering belt can be changed in one hour from one side without need to dismantle bearings, pulleys, or sensors. • Integral self clearing system to clear internal leakage.

  7. Accurate Binder Feeder

  8. Aran Continuous Mixer

  9. GOLD MINE, Western Australia. Simple Paste Backfill Plant. May 2008. ARAN supplied mixer, tailings conveyor and feeder, hopper and grizzly.

  10. GOLD MINE, Western Australia. Simple Paste Backfill Plant. May 2008. ARAN supplied mixer, tailings conveyor and feeder, hopper and grizzly.

  11. Continuous Mixers.

  12. The purpose of the weir is to retard the flow of the mixture which allows the paddles more time to blend the materials.

  13. Continuous Mixing Time. Less may be more! • In a continuous mixer, material enters at one end and exits the other. • Transit time is a function of; • Mixing blade size, • Mixing blade angle, • Speed, • Length.

  14. Continuous Mixers. •High Intensity •Collision & Division •70 RPM •(Paste mixers can feature reversible shaft rotation, variable blade direction and variable speed drive) •Non-wearing case lining

  15. MINING BACKFILL Paste Backfill • Mixing Backfill Paste using dry tailings drawn from the tailings dam

  16. Paste using compressed Volcanic Dust (Tuff) Indonesia

  17. Filter Cake Tailings

  18. BackFill Engineering Stage 1 • Review mine studies and operational plans, tailings and waste management, mine method, stope development and schedules • Tailing test work for: – tails filtration data – USC specific for fill demands – Detailed Rheology study • Exposure Stability assessment

  19. Backfill Engineering Stage 2 • Develop mass flow and water flow sheets • Verify equipment selection and review Process Flow and Process & Instrumentation Drawings • Verify Plant location and locate boreholes • Flow modelling and Schematic Design of paste fill delivery system including pipe, instrumentation and pump selection

  20. Basic Engineering Stage 2 (cont) • Placement and Barricade Design – material specifications and construction details • Fill placement schedule and control • Cost Estimation for operating costs, reticulation and barricades • Paste Fill Design Report

  21. Challenging Environments

  22. Rapid Assembly

  23. Expandable

  24. T otal System Integration

  25. ARAN Modular System includes: Modular Bolted • Thickeners Aran/FL Smidth • Modular E-Disc Filter Easy Transportation to site and rapid assembly

  26. Developed and T ested Process and Control System

  27. Intelligent Control & Logic, Sequenced Operations and Interlocks

  28. Modular Plant Key Features • Minimal on-site construction works • Rapid site assembly and commissioning • Pre-engineered – low risk • Below average paste plant project cost (project data graph, available on request) • Open internal layout • Clean operating areas • Accurate Paste control

  29. PASTE BACKFILL SYSTEM PROJECT DELIVERY MODEL For Large Projects with Long Schedules and Multiple Alliance Members Shane Dunstan 2011

  30. Agenda This presentation will summarise the process by which Aran will coordinate the delivery of packages for the Development and Commissioning of Backfill Systems for Total Backfill System Supply. The Aran alliance team method of project delivery has been developed after considerable industry engagement and project planning analysis. The delivery of a “total backfill system” in “project packages” provides both the mine and the Aran led group of suppliers the strength of confidence and flexibility to deliver a comprehensive backfill system in good time and budget.

  31. Aran Alliance Team The Aran Alliance Team represents the network of companies Aran will lead for the supply and commissioning of all engineering, equipment and technical services for the Backfill System. • Client / Project Lead EPC • Expert Backfill Design Consultants • Aran Consulting Engineering Services • Aran Equipment Suppliers • FL Smidth • Putzmeister • Weir Minerals • Rockwell • Aran Manufacturing Services

  32. Total Backfill System The “Total Backfill System” is comprised of up to Five (5) discrete “Project Packages” These Project Packages can be delivered individually and to some degree independently both commercially and technically. They are independent in financial and time schedules. All five Project Packages can be grouped as a single Total Backfill System supply, yet each package will remain as clearly independent commercial milestones.

  33. Project Packages TOTAL BACKFILL SYSTEM Site Specific Plant Plant and Site Specific Variation Backfill Equipment Site Services Process Engineering Design Manufacture Engineering and and Supply Equipment Supply

  34. Each Project Package Represents Three prime components to each Project Package: Technical 1. T echnical Scope of Schedule Deliverables 2. Schedule of Deliverable Commercial Contract Milestones and Payments 3. Contract of Agreement, obligations and commitments between Project Package parties.
